Let’s Go Fishing
INTRODUCTION:
Every Christian who follows Jesus will catch fish. Notice
1. The plea of Jesus – Come after me
2. The promise of Jesus – I will make you fishers of me
3. The price Jesus requires – and they left their nets
Let us see what kind of fish are in the church pond:
I. THE EEL FISH—Too Slippery
A. Can’t hold him
B. Like Thomas, in and out – John 20
C. Never there at the needed time
II. THE MUD FISH—found in dirty places
A. Runs with the mud loving crowd
B. Like prodigal in the hog pen – Luke 15
C. Feasting off the flesh pots
III. THE CAT FISH—all mouth
A. Cut his head off and there is nothing left
B. Like Simon Peter, always bragging
C. All mouth and never any action
IV. THE FLOUNDER FISH—Eye on one side
A. Never can see but one side
B. Like Elijah’s servant – II Kings 6
C. Looking only through a selfish eye
V. THE TOAD FISH—Always blowing up
A. Ready to swell up at anything that doesn’t suit him
B. Elder Brother – Luke 15
C. Always wearing feelings on their sleeves
VI. THE CRAY FISH—Go in either direction
A. Most of the time he goes backward
B. Lot’s Wife – Genesis 19:26
C. Trying to live in past
VII. THE GOLD FISH—Loved by all
A. People love to look at it
B. Peter and John said, “Look on us.”—Acts 3:4
C. A credit to the fish family
