John 15:34,35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
As we continue on with our Keys to the kingdom, the next key up is one that is difficult and hard to obtain. it deals with our emotions and we do not like anyone telling us what to do.
To obtain this key it takes total submission to God and His Christ in order to receive, this key.
Love is a gift, it is a fruit, it is a key which will unlock the heavens over our lives when they seem like brass.
Love is so powerful and so good that God uses it towards us John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
and in Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
So we can see the power and the beauty, that love has to offer, because of God’s great love we are free from the Law and we are freed from our sins and we are liberated to do good works.
I said last week we cannot give what we do not possess. Love is the same way, if we have not received love, then we cannot give love.
There are three basic types of love and i will debunk the fourth kind
Phileo: it is greek for brotherly love, a familial type of love
Eros: sensual or passionate; referring to the love between a man and a woman; without going into much detail this term has been turned into vulgar misrepresentation of this word.
Agape: which mean an unconditional love.
This fourth one doesn’t have a name persay, but has become a love that does no one no good “the Bible says I got to love you.”
While in their perspective places each one is necessary for their purpose, however, the last one is the love I want to zero in on.
You see it was this love that was shed abroad upon us so that we would learn that the LOVE given to us could not be earned, or purchased, is the gift of God.
1 John 4:8 “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
We often think of love as being a give and take thing, but love goes much deeper, especially this agape love.
The first love is sort of conditional it is family we love family, it is easy to love family, because they generally love you back.
The second love is conditional, because it is relational so when a spouse expresses love, we tend to reciprocate.
I know this is difficult, because terms we use like i love because, God however said Because I love, i will give My only begotten Son.
The fourth if you love because you GOT to, then that isn’t love.
The key that we must receive this evening is this THAT WE LOVE, if we do anything less we have missed the mark.
Whether home or world we must love unconditionally as Christ loves us.
We do not have to prepare ourselves a certain way, we do not have to act a certain way
The New King James Version (Chapter 5)
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us.
So if God loves us unconditionally, the He expects us to love unconditionally.
Matthew 5:44-48 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
Luke 10:25-29 “And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.” But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?””
The Story of the Good Samaritan
The Samaritans and Jews despised one another, however this story shows unconditional love.
Today we are no different it is saints against sinners; our stand is against people not against sin, yet it is love that will conquer and break that grip .
Romans13:8-10 “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
Because you love, you will not want to break these commandments.
Your love for God will give you a love for mankind and you will want to keep His Word.
1 John 2:5 “But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.”
1 John3:14 “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.”
People who are dead to this world do not operate in this world; Paul writes in Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
2 John1:5 “And now I plead with you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we have had from the beginning: that we love one another.”
John15:13-17 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.”
James 4:4 “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
therefore if we are at odds with God the heavens are shut up over us.
