Matt 10:28 ““Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Thesis: Stop caring about what people think and care about what God thinks

Intro:

What is your greatest fear?

I believe for most high school students, their biggest fear is MAN. They fear each other. Now not like they run away when they see people but a fear of what people think

What are some ways a typical high school students might fear man/ what people think?

When you went to hang out with friends but had your parent drop you off down the street because you didn’t want them to see you get dropped off by your parents

When your house looks how it always looks and then your friend comes over and you apologize for the mess

When you order a black coffee in front of a girl bc thats manly but you hate black coffee

When you laugh at inappropriate jokes bc everyone else is just too fit in

When you cuss to be cool

When you serve weekly to please parents

When you act christian because all of your friends are

When you lie to your parents or small group leader

And in so many more ways we fear man

It’s clear were told not to fear man BUT WHY DO YOU THINK THAT?

Men are made of dirt, the big, rich and powerful entered the world the same way the small, poor and weak did… as a baby. and they will leave the world the same way you and I will - in death.

And at the end of it all - you will be judged but not by a jury of your peers BUT by the holy rightous judge, God himself

and He has already said - you cannot serve two masters - you hate one and despise the other - you can’t serve God and anything or anyone else and I would go further to say you can’t FEAR God & Anyone else

Anyone do/ watch boxing?

Imagine there is a person your size and you have to fight them, that would not be fun right it would be kinda scary, but imagine a 6’8 250 pound man thats a blackbelt walks in and then you get a choice of who to fight. The person your size no longer seems that scary right or at least you are more willing to take that fight.

Wellwhen you see God as who He is - creator & sustainer HUGE INFINITE GOD - men no longer seem that scary.

You will start to live for Him in helathy fear -

Application: Fear God by

Remmebering he is watching - notes, reminders, binders, backgrounds

Speaking like he is listening

Thinking like its outloud

Fear Him - because He loves you enough to die for you
