Decisions you will never regret...
Decisions you will never regret...
I met Eldon about 4.5 years ago. Eldon wasn’t feeling well enough to come out to church the first Thursday night or two when I came to church in LeRoy, but it didn’t take long to get to know who Eldon was.
Eldon was our greeter at church, so when we’d be coming up the stairs at the Senior’s Centre in LeRoy, Eldon was there to greet us and get the folder with the bulletins and anything that he needed.
Both Eldon and Lynda were very key people in our church in LeRoy , and we miss them very much. Koinonia, that was our time of fellowship was a very important time to just grab a coffee and a snack and sit and visit. Eldon did more listening and smiling, but he did enter in when given the chance.
I loved Eldon and Lynda, but I wish that I could have got to know Eldon better. I wish that we could have had conversations about his pigs, cattle, baking, and sausage making. I do know that he loved to be in the kitchen and garden.
The summer before Covid-19, I made plans to go out for supper or go to the homes of each of our church family. When I went to Eldon and Lynda’s, we had fresh garden potatoes, they are hard to beat, bbq’d pork steak, and other fresh veggies. Of course, there was dessert. After supper, we went off to church. That was the last time that I was in the house as, when the pandemic hit, there was concern with Eldon and Fran’s health.
We prayed for Eldon’s kidneys that God would heal Eldon. We prayed that God would raise Eldon up when he seemed like it was his time, but now we know that he is healed.
I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
Today, I’d like to speak about making every day count. It can be so easy to take our moments, our days, our months, and our years for granted, but we don’t know when our life will change. It might be a sickness, and accident, a storm, drought, or even a downturn in the economy that changes our hopes of financial stability.
Our hope is not built on our health, the circumstances around us, or even the people around us.
William Bradbury wrote, “My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”
