“What a Mighty God We Serve” Isaiah 66:1-2
“What a Mighty God We Serve” Isaiah 66:1-2
INTRO: People are doubting God in these turbulent times we live. Many Christians are losing hope in God and placing hope in other things. We need to be reminded that Our God has not left us. We need to proclaim to those who are falling away, “What A Mighty God We Serve.”
This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.
Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?
2 Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord.
“These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
INTRO: The Wall Experience of Father and Son. Every now and then God has to give us a wall experience to remind us just who He is.
GOD IS MIGHTY BECAUSE HE IS THE REIGNING ONE - “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.
GOD IS MIGHTY BECAUSE HE IS THE REIGNING ONE - “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.
Isaiah 6:1 “1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.”
Heaven – God’s throne; He sits; Sitting because He’s in control.
Earth – footstool where God overrules all affairs, directions, decisions. INFLATION; GASOLINE; COVID;
God has to remind us : I REIGN: “I’m in control of this – I got this”
“Trust in Me because I REIGN.”
GOD IS MIGHTY BECAUSE HE IS THE SELF-SUFFICIENT ONE – 2 Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord.
GOD IS MIGHTY BECAUSE HE IS THE SELF-SUFFICIENT ONE – 2 Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord.
Self-sufficiency = the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction for survival;
For human beings - Self-sufficiency is not attainable
No man is an island. Even the last human on Earth would not be self-sufficient; inner needs would remain unmet.
Only God is Self-Sufficient.
Man builds buildings – God says “What do you think you’re doing? I neither slumber nor sleep.”
“With my own hands I created - heaven’s courts; Earth; boundaries;
Man has employees to get work done - Angels to do My bidding;
WHEN I created men and women, I wasn’t lonely.
SO – “I alone am Self-Sufficient. You better ask somebody!”
GOD IS MIGHTY BECAUSE HE IS THE RIGHTEOUS ONE – (2b)“These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
GOD IS MIGHTY BECAUSE HE IS THE RIGHTEOUS ONE – (2b)“These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
In His RIGHTEOUSNESS He favors the humble – connected to the poor. prey to the powerful; Blessed are the poor in Spirit...
In His RIGHTEOUSNESS He favors the contrite in Spirit – Contrite = “Wearing down a something hard; the heart; means interior repentance of your sin; change of heart that makes you never want to do that again.
He favors those who tremble at His word. Those who respond in awe and reverence of God’s majesty AND obedience.
While God shows favor to those who turn to Him, He also reserves the right to punish those who reject Him.
They are unrepentant; proud; arrogant.
In ancient Hittite and pagan religions, they made a treaty with their gods; “a man, a kid, a puppy-dog, and a suckling pig are cut in half.”
However, God can not be bargained with. You must serve Him as He prescribes.
God doesn’t accept worship from those without a pure heart; clean hands; repentant spirit.
You can not live anyway you want and then throw something together on Sunday and say “Here it is God, Take it.”
CLOSE: Christ demonstrated the perfect way we should serve our Mighty God. The Cross.
What a Mighty God We Serve. He is the REIGNING One. He is the Self-Sufficient One. He is the Righteous One.
What a Mighty God We Serve.
