TS: Isaiah 26 and 27 record the lyrics of two songs which contain Isaiah's messages of God’s ultimate exaltation of Israel
RS: As Christians, we share in that future Kingdom as joint heirs with Jesus, the Messiah!

Stanza One- Israel’s Savior

This part of the song will be sung as Israel’s testimony to GOD during the Millennium. It will do three things:
A. Thank God for His strength and Peace
Isaiah 26:1–6 ESV
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks. Open the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust. The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.”
This song will be sung in the Millennium
GOD is thanked for
Strength- strong City, walls and bullwarks
Peace- Open Gates
God keeps His people in perfect peace
peace with Him
Peace on Earth
Peace within
B. Thank God for His righteous Judgment
Isaiah 26:7–11 ESV
The path of the righteous is level; you make level the way of the righteous. In the path of your judgments, O Lord, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. If favor is shown to the wicked, he does not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness he deals corruptly and does not see the majesty of the Lord. O Lord, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people, and be ashamed. Let the fire for your adversaries consume them.
God’s judgment is 100% correct!
Just- Sin is judged
Jesus paid the price so that we are now FREE
It is Gracious
It is Merciful
C. Thank God for His Uniqueness
He alone, unlike the dead idols Israel once worshiped, is the true and only God
Isaiah 26:12–15 ESV
O Lord, you will ordain peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works. O Lord our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone we bring to remembrance. They are dead, they will not live; they are shades, they will not arise; to that end you have visited them with destruction and wiped out all remembrance of them. But you have increased the nation, O Lord, you have increased the nation; you are glorified; you have enlarged all the borders of the land.
As millenium opens, it is clear that there is no other God
He alone is all powerful.
AP: Jesus is Our Savior
There is no salvation any other way
We should worship Him and thank Him for salvation now and not wait for the Millennium!

Stanza Two- Israel’s Suffering

It will speak of two things
A. The Sin
God Himself allows Israel’s suffering as a punishment for sin.
Isaiah 26:16 ESV
O Lord, in distress they sought you; they poured out a whispered prayer when your discipline was upon them.
Isaiah 27:12–13 ESV
In that day from the river Euphrates to the Brook of Egypt the Lord will thresh out the grain, and you will be gleaned one by one, O people of Israel. And in that day a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were lost in the land of Assyria and those who were driven out to the land of Egypt will come and worship the Lord on the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
After the judgment of Her enemies at the end of Daniel’s 70th week, (Great Tribulation), the faithful remnant of Israelites will return to their land.
Matthew 24:31 ESV
And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
They were judged due to sin
This has been a reoccurring theme in Isaiah
B. The Symbol
Israel suffers as a woman giving birth
Isaiah 26:17–18 ESV
Like a pregnant woman who writhes and cries out in her pangs when she is near to giving birth, so were we because of you, O Lord; we were pregnant, we writhed, but we have given birth to wind. We have accomplished no deliverance in the earth, and the inhabitants of the world have not fallen.
The agony of the suffering was intense and reoccurring.
She has had a tumultuous past.
All brought on through her sin.
Deuteronomy 11:26–28 ESV
“See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today, to go after other gods that you have not known.
It was that clear and to the point.
Yet Israel chose to disobey:
injustice, idolatry, adultery, coveting, disregard for the laws of God
Personally and as a nation.
AP: God still disciplines His children
Hebrews 12:5–6 ESV
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
God disciplines us
Out of love: correction to put us back on the right path
Shape us into what He desires

Stanza Three- Israel’s Salvation

Israel will experience two things:
A. Resurrection from the Dead
Isaiah 26:19 ESV
Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.
This is one of the OT resurrection passages
Resurrection was not exclusive to the NT
One day, there will be a general resurrection:
Revelation 20:13–15 ESV
And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Only the redeemed enter the Millennium
B. Restoration to the Land
God would bring them home to the promised land
God made the covenant with Abraham, renewed it with each generation, and brought the nation out of Egypt.
He has promised that Israel will receive their WHOLE inheritance.
It never has yet, but it will in the final Kingdom.
The whole world will come to Jersualem and worship the Lord
AP: We share in this benefit
1 Corinthians 15:51–56 ESV
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

Stanza Four- Israel’s Security

A. Protection during the Great Tribulation
Isaiah 26:20 ESV
Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by.
We recently looked at the Tribulation
Unprecedented judgment coming from God and wickedness on Earth
Israel will be persecuted and the Antichrist will attempt to wipe her out.
God will preserve them!
Revelation 12:5–6 ESV
She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
B. Productivity During the Glorious Millennium
Isaiah 27:2–6 ESV
In that day, “A pleasant vineyard, sing of it! I, the Lord, am its keeper; every moment I water it. Lest anyone punish it, I keep it night and day; I have no wrath. Would that I had thorns and briers to battle! I would march against them, I would burn them up together. Or let them lay hold of my protection, let them make peace with me, let them make peace with me.” In days to come Jacob shall take root, Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots and fill the whole world with fruit.
The promised land will again be a land flowing with milk and honey
