For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
big truth here
God is our creator and giver of life
he knows us before human thought
God knows us from infinity to infinity, inside and outside of time
this highlights the tenor of the first 12 verses of this psalm
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
God knows Me
God knows Me
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
god knows each one of us
there can be no hiding, no doubt about this
He has searched us - deliberate and thorough in his knowing
Familiar with All My Ways
Familiar with All My Ways
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

sit, rise, going out, coming in
God is intimate with all our dealings
Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
god knows every word
God is completely around me
God is forever protecting me
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
this is an overwhelming thought
we cannot really comprehend this divine providence
Greatest Promise
Greatest Promise
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
one of the most powerful promises in Scripture
more than conquerors, inseparable from God’s love expressed in Jesus Christ
HOW DO WE RESPOND TO THIS?
Our Response
Our Response
must respond as conquerors over sin and death
mus respond as conquerors over our fleshly mind and feelings
we have the guarantee of God’s love - nothing greater than the cross in all creation
born again believer has total access to this amazing promise
our response cannot be to run away or hide from God
Hiding from God
Hiding from God
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
god is everywhere
from the heights to the depths, he is there
I cannot hide from him or run away
Jonah tried it
This terrified them and they asked, “What have you done?” (They knew he was running away from the Lord, because he had already told them so.)
Back to Psalm 139
Back to Psalm 139
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
the time of day is not a factor
travelling across the world is useless
hiding in darkness is futile
God is all present and all knowing
Protection of God
Protection of God
even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
guiding hand is there
the power and strength of God’s right hand will hld me fast
nothing is too strong or too fearful for God
we rest in that assurance
we work in that certainty
we believe with great faith and obedience
