Galatians 5:1-15

This verse and John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”, has been preached on or around Independence day for years. These are powerful verses for freedom, however they have nothing to do with the freedom we have in the USA. I believe Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; And the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” .......is the correct verse for a wonderful nation and the idea it was founded under!
The freedom/liberty that Paul is speaking of here is an eternal freedom, that has been given to us not based on merit or any thing that we have done.......I like what Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:10 “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
This is of great importance, we haven’t fought for this, we haven’t worked for this, we have haven’t found pleasure in the eyes of God!!!!
We are all sinners, therefore enemies against God! Enemies!
The rebellion declared war on their enemy, to win the country’s short lived freedom!
Forgiveness wins our eternal freedom!
We look for freedom in so many ways.....
Freedom from addiction
Freedom from earthly oppression
Freedom from financial debt
Freedom from loneliness
Freedom from anger
Freedom from depression
Freedom from bad memories
Freedom from the lost of a loved one
As John 8:32, Jesus tells us that the Truth sets us free.......That is strong, because it is reality!
Eternal life is not anything to sneeze at or to pass off till the next day!
It is the ultimate reality that when this life ends, and it will, we face what our earthly decision was.......and the Judge is God!
It is to God’s Law that we are measured with, have we met it or not?? He is the only One that can judge, because He is the only Pure being ever or will ever be, so He can judge righteously!
It is to God Who we answer.......and we have not met the standards of His righteousness!
You can try to say this or that about it, but we must deal with this...........
In the curse that the Law has over us, we are condemned already, right out of the womb......
Christ has made us free from this curse! Liberty, Freedom!!!
He lived the life that it is impossible for us to live, He died our death (suffering and death of God the Son that is equivalent to an eternal death)!
Hence, it is by faith that we are made free, faith in Who Jesus is and what He has done!
Martin Luther wrote about this liberty: “This is indeed a marvellous liberty, to have the sovereign God for our Friend and Father Who will defend, maintain, and save us in this life and in the life to come!”
“We are at the same time free from the Law, sin, death, the power of the devil, hell, etc...... Since the wrath of God has been appeased by Christ, no Law, no sin, no death, may now accuse and condemn us!”
Isaiah 54:8 “In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; But with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, Saith the Lord thy Redeemer.”
Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)”
Christ is the “everlasting kindness” that has given us mercy!
Our liberty is founded on Christ Himself, Who sits at the Right Hand of God and intercedes for us......
Therefore our liberty is sure and valid as long as we believe in Christ.....As long as we cling to Him with a steadfast faith!!!!!
Summing up.........This is the life that we need to contend with, whether we are of faith in Christ Jesus, the Redeemer of all men!!!
Without Jesus, we are left with nothing, but continual death!
The Christians of Galatia was told that had to have Christ and be good, some might would say before Christ would even have you, you have to clean up your act......basically putting your salvation in your hands.........
John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
We also can add John 8:24 “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”
Jesus Christ is what makes the difference............this is a unique interview I listened to:
A famous transgender was being interviewed by FoxNews........this person claimed to be conservative and Christian..........this person said that he was in prison living as a man, get this it wasn’t till he talked to his pastor that he was free and came out as a woman. He went on to say, he had to talk to God about revealing who he truly was.........Then at the end of the interview, he talked about going to Heaven and he thought he was, but he said at the end that he hoped he was good enough!
This fella had all of his perspective distorted by satan and his own flesh.......2 Corinthians 4:4 “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
On the first hand, our prison is not our sexuality, or the other things I spoke of.......it is our responsibility toward God, that is Who we answer to..........Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
On the second hand........a Christian’s place in Heaven does not hinge on our righteousness, Jesus Christ is our righteousness and has won for us a crown of life!
The former lesbian, young lady, that gave her testimony in a video that I showed ya’ll........she said when she started looking for verses that condemned homosexuality, she found them but she also found more than just homosexuality that condemned her and that brought her to Jesus and she said something very profound......”It is not gay to straight, it is lost to saved! Bond to Free!
Jesus Christ is Who makes the difference, not you, that is what we believe! That is a marvelous liberty!!
Now, do we continue in sin because of grace and say “I am forgiven!” God forbid Paul declares in Romans 6........he adds Romans 6:2 “God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
We are no longer in bondage to sin, it holds no power over us, by guilt or by living......Jesus has made us free and so our lives will reflect our new life and newfound hope that is in Christ Jesus!
This liberty leads us to a new life that is in Christ Jesus a life that Paul tells us, will bring us to love our neighbor......anyone we come in contact with!!
How can this be, why is this a part of this????........ I read this from Martin Lloyd Jones:
“We see them now, no longer as hateful people who are trying to rob us of our rights, or trying to beat us in the race for money, or position or fame; we see them, as we see ourselves, as the victims of sin and of Satan, as the dupes of “the god of this world,” as fellow-creatures who are under the wrath of God and hell-bound. We have an entirely new view of them. We see them to be exactly as we are ourselves, and we are both in a terrible predicament. And we can do nothing; but both of us together must run to Christ and avail ourselves of his wonderful grace. We begin to enjoy it together and we want to share it together. That is how it works. It is the only way whereby we can ever do unto others as we would that they should do unto us. It is when we are really loving our neighbor as ourselves because we have been delivered from the thralldom of self, that we begin to enjoy “the glorious liberty of the children of God.”
The proof is the pudding....this is evidence of a new nature!
Tomorrow, there will be people everywhere celebrating.....some celebrating our freedom, some protesting the very freedoms we live under, some celebrating for no reason but just an excuse to celebrate.........
The freedom that is in Christ leads us to share with one another, regardless of color, status, fame, money, looks, etc. etc., this marvellous Grace that has been given to us through Jesus The Christ The Son of The Living God!!
We can enjoy our man-made, God allowed, freedom, nothing wrong with that.......However, the Freedom that Christians enjoy is forever, doesn’t have to be fought for.....It Is Finished!!!!
