Attention Getter: The Bible
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Leviticus 20:7 (KJV 1900)
Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God.
Prayer:
Topic: Holiness in the Life of the Believer
Authoritative Statement: God is looking for useable vessels. A Clean vessel, honorable vessels. Not a dirty cup.
Relational Statement: To all applicants this need applies.
When we are converted, born again, we are delivered from the tyranny of sin, the corruption of this world. The old life. But what about the Christian life after our old life is over? Can a Christian sin or continue to live in sin?
A question you may ask is What are the possibilities of genuine victorious lifestyle? These practical questions come under the the banner known as sanctification (Gk. hagiasmos)
Today we’ll begin to look at this subject with great detail and over the next few weeks because God is truly concerned that His people be holy (Gk. hagios): in these last days Amen.
But, before we move forward the first thing we want to do is to be prepare in our minds to move forward, to be engage and ready for action. If you’re ready say Amen. As we turn to 1 pet. 1:13-16.
The Bible shows that 1sanctification is in one aspect positional and instantaneous; in another aspect, 2practical and progressive. The chief aspect, however, is the 3progressive work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.
4 As regeneration is the impartation of new life to the new convert, so sanctification or Holiness is the development of that new spiritual life of the believer.
DEFINING TERMS
Before we undertake our analysis of the threefold aspect of the doctrine of sanctification as afore mentioned.
5. (positional, actual, and final holiness), several terms should be carefully noted.
6. The Greek and Hebrew words for “sanctification,” “saint,” “dedication,” “consecration,” and “holiness” they are all connected to the idea of separation. In fact, the core concept of the term “sanctification” is separation
In fact, the core concept of the term “sanctification” is separation. To be sanctified is to be set apart—set apart from sin in order to be set apart to God and to the reverent and joyful worship and service of God
Illustration:
7. The Rich in typological imagery is the Levitical priesthood we see in the Old Testament and the ceremonies associated with the tabernacle and, later, the temple. That which was offered to God was to be set apart in a special way, emphasizing the holiness of the One receiving such worship.
That positive dedication to God is always the number one emphasis. For example, let us now point to
8. The Holy Vessels used in the tabernacle and the temple they were separated from ordinary use.
One could not take them into an Israelite home and use them. See that is not what made them holy. They were not holy until they were taken into the tabernacle or the temple and actually used in the worship of the Lord.
Throughout the ages God has separated unto himself those He wishes to be His own. He wants to use them all in His service. He intends that those He has redeemed shall be fashioned into Godlike people:
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Bible Doctrines: A Pentecostal Perspective Defining Terms
Therefore, involved in this concept of separation is a strong positive emphasis on dedication, which is separation to God and to His worship and service.
Bible Doctrines: A Pentecostal Perspective Defining Terms
Righteousness is conformity to divine law, usually seen within the covenant relationship. Holiness is conformity to the divine nature.
Bible Doctrines: A Pentecostal Perspective (Defining Terms)
The terms “purification” and “consecration” relate to the latter. God is concerned not only with outward obedience to the divine will, He is concerned with an inward wellspring of motivation that is cleansed and pure.
Mark 7:7 (MEV)
In vain do they worship Me,
teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’
Luke 6:45 (KJV 1900).
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bears what is good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bears what is evil. For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
As the believer submits to the gracious ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, the heart is washed and renewed progressively
Since your souls have been purified by obedience to the truth through the Spirit unto a genuine brotherly love, love one another deeply with a pure heart,
you also, as living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
As the light of God’s Spirit and Word floods the heart and mind, the believer is expected to respond, cooperating with God by removing himself from defilement
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame go out of joint, but rather be healed.
Pursue peace with all men, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord,
watching diligently so that no one falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness spring up to cause trouble, and many become defiled by it,
He’s saying. Be an example to the weak in the faith by living holy. Especially with the brethren, so that the “lame brother or sister” be not turned out of the way (Heb 12:13), so that no one “fail of the grace of God” (Heb 12:15).
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Hebrews 12: 14 reminds us to “make every effort … to be holy;
Matthew 5:8 (KJV 1900)
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Mt 5:8. without holiness no one will see the Lord.” “Sanctification is not optional for believers in Christ.”
While “following peace and holiness”, Put on Go’s holiness, Don’t be a people pleaser, as to make God’s will and our sanctification a secondary object; But it must be our first aim with all men.
Conclusion:
God is looking for useable vessels. A Clean vessel, honorable vessels. Not a dirty cup.
