Wisdom: Walking in Prayer
EOT-
Solomon prayed a nation changing prayer.
Tom Constable’s Expository Notes on the Bible A. Solomon’s Wisdom and Prosperity ch. 1

“The central teaching of chapter 1 . . . lies in Solomon’s selfless prayer for wisdom, which was the precise characteristic that his father David had already invoked for him (1 Chron. 22:12).”

EOS-
A life pursuing Godly wisdom
DDS-
What step will you take to pursue wisdom
How would you define wisdom?
Would you say that you are living a wise life?
How does the Bible describe wisdom?
How does the world define wisdom?
Jeremiah 9:23 NASB95
Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;
How would you define wisdom.
Many times the church can define wisdom like the world.
WISDOM
Yesterday Heather went to Chicago to see her sister who she has not seen in 3 years, we got up at 3AM. I stayed up until her flight actually to take off.
To keep myself up I watched you tube videos on Tom Cruise.
Hasn’t Tommy lived out boasting in some of these things:
He boasts in his wisdom-Church of scientology
Mighty-Who is more successful as an actor
Rich-600 Million
Elon Musk would be considered a wise person today. if you turn on facebook he is all over the place. He can talk about engineering of brakes on a electric eighteen wheeler and how you never have to replace them.
Kevin Durant-
All these men who I go to who are wise it is because they are living the American dream.
This is not how God describes wisdom.
This verse however tells us that wisdom is not any of these characteristics that we value in the world
Second half of the verse
Jeremiah 9:24 NASB95
but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.
God’s wisdom is connected to boasting in God.
Last night talking to Joshua
He grew up in Church but he says my generation is leaving the church
He is right over 80% of kids who are growing up in the church are leaving the church.
Here is how God defines wisdom.
Proverbs 1:7 NASB95
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Today we are going to look at a man who is at times called the wisest man to have ever lived. The wisest man not counting Jesus.
1 Kings 4:30 NASB95
Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.
Today we are going to see how he got that designation.
But we will not
Today I want to give you two building blocks you must have if you want to pursue God’s wisdom.

1. A LIFE PURSUING WISDOM: makes worship the priority.

Is worship the priority in your life. Not a priority but THE priority.
Solomon started strong and the reason we know he started strong is because God was the centerpiece of his life.
2 Chronicles 1:1 ESV
Solomon the son of David established himself in his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.
How do we make worship the priority:
We must make Room For God to be on HIS throne
Solomon made room for God, by prioritizing God. Solomon was the King of an entire nation but what he knew is what we need to know that God is the real KING OF KINGS.
Why did Solomon get off to such a great start-It tells us clearly-
THE LORD WAS WITH HIM
What is the greatest way to establish yourself: personally, with your family, in your job. To put God in the center of it.
When we put God in the center of our lives worship becomes a lifestyle.
We were created to worship.
What this means is that when we don’t do that things will not line up.
Could you picture driving a car with water replaced as gasoline. It would not work.
Would this be said about you. That person is different because the LORD IS WITH YOU.
How do we make worship the priority:
We must sharpen each other to worship.
2 Chronicles 1:2 ESV
Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to all the leaders in all Israel, the heads of fathers’ houses.
Why could Solomon challenge others to worship, because he was already worshipping.
2 Chronicles 1:3–5 ESV
And Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon, for the tent of meeting of God, which Moses the servant of the Lord had made in the wilderness, was there. (But David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.) Moreover, the bronze altar that Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord. And Solomon and the assembly sought it out.
2 Chronicles 1:6 ESV
And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the Lord, which was at the tent of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it.

2. A LIFE PURSUING WIDSOM: is centered on Godly prayer.

2 Chronicles 1:7 ESV
In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.”
Could you picture God gave you a blank sheet of paper. A free lottery ticket. I think a lot of us would look at this like God as our Genie.
What is amazing about this is again we see this scripture that God initiates with man.
Psalm 127:1 ESV
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
No matter what man does it will be useless unless God moves and here God is initiating with Solomon and Solomon was ready.
He made worship a priority and now here was God interacting with him.
2 Chronicles 1:8 ESV
And Solomon said to God, “You have shown great and steadfast love to David my father, and have made me king in his place.
Solomon’s Prayer Praised God
He praised God for what he had done.
When is the last time you praised God for what he has done for you?
God was like ask me for whatever you want and he said I want you God.
You are enough.
2 Chronicles 1:9 ESV
O Lord God, let your word to David my father be now fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
Solomon’s Prayer Thanked God
God you did what you said you were going to do.
This goes back to the Covenant that he made with his Dad.
Sometimes we like to ask God for stuff before we connect with God.
Solomon’s Prayer Asked God for rgreat things
2 Chronicles 1:10 ESV
Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?”
He pray
2 Chronicles 1:11–13 NASB95
God said to Solomon, “Because you had this in mind, and did not ask for riches, wealth or honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even asked for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge that you may rule My people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings who were before you has possessed nor those who will come after you.” So Solomon went from the high place which was at Gibeon, from the tent of meeting, to Jerusalem, and he reigned over Israel.
Application
Gospel
1 Corinthians 1:21 NASB95
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
