Kids watching Dragon tales. 7am or 4pm we would normally watch after school
Captivating adventures they would go out on with these little dragon dinasours.
When i was a preteen teenager mind as well been an adult, i use to love walking around my neighborhood where we lived we boarded broad river and harbison state forest so alot of natural areas of exploration. So many times i would be walking the trails and see something interesting off trail and go investigate.
I found cool caves and once behind my house i found a make shift tree house that i added on until one rainy day the weight of a feather knocked it down, once even an area with some old unused sewer concrete pipes. Reinforced concrete pipes. WIth a few chairs around it and a little dug out campfire area and we would get off the bus go up to this area and act a fool.
See adventures generally start off with an interest to see whats over a hill, or under a bridge. Whats that colorful thing in this distance. OR maybe even a myth or legendary story a kid would tell on the bus that would leave us searching the woods or an area for some fascinating structure.
Based off this story or just straight bordem
Into the unknown we would go.
Those were the days. ANyone else experiecne that childhood?
See now im a grown man and most of my adventures start off with a planned perception of the event. Okay i know its going to be 105 with a heat index of 115.
Pack not only sunscreen extra water, a towel just incase i have to blow my nose and....the list goes on right.
But honetly you plan on taking a stroll down the beach you bring a bottle of water and some flipply floppies.
take a peak at the fascinating creatures in the river you will be sure to take a camera and a extra long pokey stick to poke the strange none moving pokey thingy in the water.
most of the time when we set out to take an adventure we attempt to plan for each scenario we can.
Now with kids this means 3 book bags a stroller and some Tylenol.
the spontaneity of mika and myself walking down a trail and then seeing a cool mystical dark forest we would love to run into and explore. well those days almost seem dead and gone.
Now dont get me wrong when you leave the house dont leave unprepared but what happens when we take this same concept and we apply it to when the Holy Spirit tell us to go.
Humans have this drive to explore the unknown, we want to discover this whole universe, push the boundaries of our limits and then push even further to see what we are fully capable of.
This exploration is how we discover new depths and happen upon hidden treasures.
This isn’t part of our fallen man its part of who God created us to be. Our entire person body soul spirit wants to be on a course of exploration.
Today were going to dive throughout the bible at some stories that show us the inside of the wilderness.
Starting with Jesus Christ.
Mark 1:9–13 NIV
9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” 12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.
You gotta love mark because he keeps it short and sweet with his explination of stories.
Luke 4 1-13 would describe it in more details and we can hint over to that passage but we wont read it.
Jesus into the wilderness.
lets define the world wilderness
Wilderness region uncultivated and uninhabited by human beings.
this is the normal definition of it today from webster.
but i put this definition in my own terms
And wilderness is the exploration of the unknown and untouched.
Jesus has been with John the Baptist and is baptised in the Jordan river where the Spirit falls upon him as a dove from heaven.
But the Holy Spirit doesn’t just stay in one place, Holy spirit is all about taking us to the place of God. And this for us at times is in the desolate places.
So Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness immediately. Where Jesus would not eat anything for 40 days.
This fasting Jesus would conduct is breaking him down physically. Creating a weakness.
Come on someone talk to me here this morning.
Ever dealt with hangry people? Its like that movie Joy with the different feelings in the head. If angry doesnt get food that little guy just creates this little monster insdie of you and it comes out full force hangry style. No remorse. No stopping the anger battle from within until you get food and then all of a sudden you are just little angel again.
Well This is what fasting does. Its allows your body to break down just like that. Allows your spirit to unravel and become
Vulnerable.
Wilderness leaves you vulnerable.
Speaking of Condition last week we had a conversation about a weakness. Or rather we talked about what we do with the fragile, sensitive parts of our lives.
For some its a secret siin we dont want anyone to find out about. Its not that you want to be stuck in this sin but its exactly that. you’re stuck. In this circle of death. You get caught up and find yourself masking who you are in the cover of shame.
For others
We mentioned that wwe all have weaknesses, some that cause limitations in what, where, or how we can do things. Those of you also, Though a course of fraigile moments cover up life in a cloth of shame.
Your weaknesses, weather self inflicted or naturally dealt. Are God’s strongholds. You are God’s people. You are His children. those things have no power over who you are. But God takes our weakensses and creates in us new life. Even though us God brings New Life to those around you amen!
But he went
When we apply the system that works in our natural , and we take it and apply it to our supernatural life.
When Holy Spirit speaks to us sure he sends us physically to places and sure we have to get dressed and leave out the door.
But when Holy Spirit speaks to us spiritually to go, its not just a physical response its a spiritual one.
What im wondering is in what condition do we leave out of that door?
In what CONDTION are we when we answer Gods Call?
1 Thessalonians 5:23 NIV
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Spirit is born again through Christ
Soul(mind and emotions) - Renewed and transformed by His Word
Body we keep in submission to our spirits until the day of christ.
(through fasting and prayer. )
But how do we get there.
