1 Peter 5:10-11 NIV
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
To him be the power for ever and ever.
Amen.”
“It’s Going to Take a Little While “
1 Peter 5:10-11 (NIV)
Quote: Christians are to live with the understanding that God’s purposes realized in the future require some pain in the present.
Note: as verse 10 attests (cf.
1:6; also 2 Cor.
1:3–7).
perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle.
These four words speak of strength and resoluteness.
God is working through the Christian’s struggles to produce strength of character.
Some of us
Don’t mind going thru somethings
As long as it
Don’t last long
For some of us
It’s not so much
The Pain
But “How Long “ will I have to ENDURE the pain
Peter is telling these Christians
That it’s going to be awhile
But YOU’RE GOING TO MAKE IT
And what Peter is doing here
He’s trying to get these Christians
To ENDURE what God has ALLOWED
Because
It’s in this SEASON of SUFFERING
That God is going
To give you
A Spirit of Stability
Because we have to many Christians
That’s standing still
And going backwards
Instead of growing
In the Grace & Knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ
When the Season of Suffering comes
So, Peter is encouraging them
Thru the process
That God is making them BETTER
And how they are going
To be better and handle the process
Is by God’s Grace -- PRAISE THE LORD
In the text
We will see
That God is going to use
Their suffering as a TOOL
But He also
Has a tool
For the suffering
And it’s called Grace
In chapter One
Of 1st Peter
Peter encourages them about their suffering
And that their suffering
Is going to be SEASONAL
1st.
It’s Seasonal ( V. 1:6 )
2nd.
It’s Strengthening ( V. 1:7A )
3rd.
It’s Survivable ( V. 1:7B )
Verse 7 of 1st Peter
Peter says
Their lives was being tried by fire.
That phrase “ tried by fire “
Gives the imagery or thought
Of a potter working with clay
It is a pottery phrase
When Peter talks about
Their lives being tried by fire
He’s liken their lives
To what a potter does to the clay
There’s a process
That the potter has to use
To move the clay
From the shop to the show room
The potter is not investing
All of his time, talent & treasure & resources
To allow the pottery to stay in the shop
But the potter
Is trying to move the clay
from the shop to the show room
But in order for the clay to make that process
There’s several things
That the potter has to do to the clay
1st.
The potter has to FIND the clay
2nd.
He has FORM the clay
3rd.
He has to FRAME the clay
4th.
He has to FORTIFY the clay
5th.
HE FINISHES the clay
6TH.
Then he has to Furnace the clay
1st.
FIND the clay — clay has to be found, look for outside in the dirt
