Attack on America-I am Reminded
ATTACK ON AMERICA __ I AM REMINDED
TEXT: Deuteronomy 7:18 Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the Lord thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;
Psalm 105:5 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
INTRODUCTION: We have all been moved by the tragedy that has hit our nation this past week. Our eyes have been glued to the television, we have read the newspapers it has been the topic of our conversations. We have asked the questions. Why? How? What can come of all of this? What does the future hold? When I look at the past wee I am reminded of several things. I want to share them with you this morning.
I. i am reminded of how precious my family is to me
Genesis 1:27-28 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply
A. I saw those who had lost their loved ones. I read what they had to say.
1. Ronnie Clifford escaped the WTC before it crumbled to the ground, his sister and niece was in the plane that hit the tower
2. Lorne Lyle’s wife Cee-Cee, a flight attendant on United Airlines flight 93 called “To tell me she loved me dearly and to tell the boys she loved us.
3. I heard the wife of a vice president of express that she didn’t know how she would handle her two boys ages 5 and 3 without their daddy.
B. We need to be reminded that God gave us our spouses and children and we should set take every moment to share our love with them
II. i am reminded of how priceless my friends are to me
1 Samuel 18:3-4 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
A. During this time, friends have leaned on each other for comfort
B. We need to be reminded that we should value our friends and seek to make friends
Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
III. i am reminded that death is imminent
1 Samuel 20:3c …but truly as the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
Hebrews 9:27a And as it is appointed unto men once to die,
A. People got on the plane, people went to work just like every other day. They did not expect to die
B. We need to be reminded that we don’t know when we will die
IV. i am reminded the unity is good
Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
A. United in one effort
1. Resecuers
2. Giving blood (Even Yassar Arafat)
3. Prayer
4. Congress forgetting about differences and party lines
5. Nations forgetting their differences
B. We need to be reminded that a Christians we sould dwell together in unity
1. In our homes
2. In our Church
3. In our community
V. i am reminded that god is in control
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
A. No matter what my happen, God is still in control
Malachi 3:6a For I am the Lord, I change not; …
1. God made the universe, He can control it
2. Nothing happens that he is unaware of. There is no surprises to Him
B. We need to be reminded that He looks out after us
VI. i am reminded that god judges and punishes
A. Obviously our country will go after those who are responsible
B. We need to be reminded that those responsible will also answer to God
Romans 12:19c, … Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
1. We too till give an account to God at the judgement
VII. i am reminded that commitment comes with a price
A. As I hear of over 200 firemen and policemen that lost their lives my heart was touched.
1. They literally gave their lives for what they believed in.
2. They were commited to the tack that lay before them
B. We need to be reminded that when we commit our lives to Christ and His service we must be willing to die to self
1 Corinthians 15:31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
VIII. i am reminded that evil will be destroyed
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
