Coming Judgment of the Harlot
One of the Angels out from the Seven Explains the Judgment of the Great Harlot, Revelation 17:1-2
Revelation 17:1–2
Then came one out from the seven angels, the ones having the seven bowls, and spoke with me saying, “Come, I will show to you the judgment of the great harlot, the one sitting upon many waters,
A Religious System
Many Waters Refer to Peoples and Nations
The Use of a Woman as the Head of a Religion
Always Used Negatively
Predominately, Cults Started by Women Involve Deception Where Those From Men Tend to be Outright Perverted
The Prophetess Jezabel , Revelation 2:20
Revelation 2:20
but I have against you that you have forgiven the woman Jezebel, the one calling herself a prophetess and she teaches and deceives My servants to fornicate and to eat things sacrificed to idols.
She teaches spiritual fornication
She teaches idolatry
Her teaching is deceptive
She Produces Children, Revelation 2:23
Revelation 2:23
And her children I will kill by death and all the assemblies will experientially know that I am the One inquiring of the mind and the heart and I will give to you each according to your works
A Woman is Not to Teach or Have Authority over Men, 1 Timothy 2:12
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
She is to learn in quietness (stillness [ἡσυχίᾳ])
Her place is not to teach doctrine (αὐθεντεῖν - to usurp authority)
She is more susceptible to being deceived, 1 Timothy 2:14
1 Timothy 2:14
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was thoroughly deceived coming to be in a transgression.
Judgment is Coming Upon This Great Harlot
Timing is Given to Us - One of the Angels Having the Seven Bowls
Taken in spirit to a Desert, Revelation 17:3-4
Taken in spirit to a Desert, Revelation 17:3-4
Revelation 17:3
And he carried me away in spirit to a desert and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet beast full of blasphemous names while having seven heads and ten horns.
Previously was in the Heaven
Now the Focus is Earthly
Taken to a Wilderness or Desert (a barren place)
The Woman and the Beast
The Beast is Scarlet in Color Indicating a Connection with a Religious System
The Beast is the Man of Lawlessness, Daniel 7:7
“After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.
At This Stage, the Beast is First Coming into Power (All Ten Kings With Him)
He Has Names That Falsely Attribute Things to Him
He will be Allowed to Deceive the Nations, 2 Thessalonians 2:10
and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
He Comes According With the Workings of Satan, 2 Thessalonians 2:9
that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
The Woman is a Religious System - Scarlet Color is Used to Indicate Religion, Revelation 17:4
Revelation 17:4
And the woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, adorned in gold with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full from detestable things and the uncleanliness of her fornication.
Purple Indicating Royalty - The King of Babylon
Using Purple when Mocking Jesus, John 19:2
And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him;
Adorned with Gold
The Cup in Her Hand
Detestable things - Abominations
That which is highly esteemed among men is detestable to God, Luke 16:15
And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.
Things that are Practiced, Revelation 21:27
and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Fornication - conglomeration of many religious systems
The Name of the Harlot, Revelation 17:5
The Name of the Harlot, Revelation 17:5
Revelation 17:5
And upon her forehead written, “Mystery Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the detestable things of the earth.”
Mystery has to be taken with Babylon According to Normal Grammar
Not - a mystery, Babylon the great
NAS makes mystery an accusative, Revelation 17:5
and on her forehead a name was written, a mystery, “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
ESV makes mystery a genitive, Revelation 17:5
And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.”
Mystery Babylon
The Use of Apposition
This use denotes more specifically who or what produces the action or presents the state expressed by the finite verb
All Three Define the Subject - Mystery, Babylon, The Great
Babylon is not a Mystery, She is Referred to as Mystery Babylon, not just a Mystery
Babylon
Know for it Political Power
Nebuchadnezzar, the Head of Gold, Daniel 2:38
and wherever the sons of men dwell, or the beasts of the field, or the birds of the sky, He has given them into your hand and has caused you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold.
Prophecy Concerning the City of Babylon will not be inhabited, Isaiah 13:20
It will never be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation;
Nor will the Arab pitch his tent there,
Nor will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
Not Know for its Religion
The Religions of Babel are not in Focus
No Clear Revelation in the Old Testament Concerning This Babylon
This is Why it is Mystery Babylon. Now it is a Religious Not Political Power
The Future King of Babylon, Isaiah 14:4
that you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon, and say,
“How the oppressor has ceased,
And how fury has ceased!
The Future King will Be Concerning a Religious Figure
Clothed with Scarlet and Gold, Revelation 17:4
Revelation 17:4
And the woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, adorned in gold with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full from detestable things and the uncleanliness of her fornication.
She Comes in With Religious Authority Over the Beast, Revelation 17:3
Revelation 17:3
And he carried me away in spirit to a desert and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet beast full of blasphemous names while having seven heads and ten horns.
It Will Not Be Known By Its Political Power
After Israel is Brought into Rest - During the Millennial Kingdom They Will Have A Reminder of Babylon, Isaiah 14:3
And it will be in the day when the Lord gives you rest from your pain and turmoil and harsh service in which you have been enslaved,
This Babylon is the Mystery Babylon of the Tribulation
Because It is a Mystery, We Have to Look into What is Revealed About It to Understand the Mystery
She Has Religious Authority
She Cause them to Commit Idolatry
She is Seen as Royalty - Not Political, Religious
