CHRISTIANS AND THEIR CONDUCT

Text: 1 John 1:5-10

I.          CHRISTIANS WORSHIP RIGHTLY

A.       Their attitudes toward God are right

1.      They approach him as the God of light (I John 1:1-5)

a)      In I John 1:1-3 John is dealing with the attributes of Christ as they relate to fellowship with God

(1)   It is because of who and what he was that we come to God and commune with God

b)      In verses 4-5 John is dealing with the attitudes of Christians as they relate to fellowship with God

(1)   God is worshiped only as we receive his revelation and reverence his righteousness

2.      They approach him as the God of love (I John 4:16,18)

a)      True worshippers are grateful for God’s love

b)      They have experienced and are expressing God’s love

c)      True worshippers are growing in God’s love

B.        Their actions toward God are right

1.      They approach him with an awareness of sin (I John 1:6—10)

a)      Christians must realize that they cannot worship God and dwell in sin

b)      Christians must realize that they cannot worship God and deny sin

2.      They approach him with an admission of sin (I John 1:9-10)

a)      An attitude of humility toward sin brings cleansing (v.9)

b)      An attitude of hypocrisy toward brings condemnation (v.10)

II.       CHRISTIANS WALK RIGHTEOUSLY

A.       They walk in fellowship with the Savior( 1:7)

1.      The fellowship is progressive

2.      The fellowship is pure

3.      This fellowship is personal

4.      This fellowship is purifying

5.      This fellowship is proof(I John 2:3-4)

B.        They walk in fellowship with the Saints(3 :14-19

1.      They walk in fellowship of love

2.      They walk in a fellowship of loving

III.    CHRISTIANS WITNESS REGULARLY

A.       Christians witness with their lives(2 :15—19)

1.      They witness with their separation

2.      They witness by thier stability

B.        They witness with their lips(2:20-23)

1.      The Spirit’s wisdom is in their lives(v.20)

2.      The Scriptures witness is in their lives(v.21)

3.      The Savior’s witness is on their lips (vv.22—23)
