17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,
Sin is a shock to your system
You're going to prove your identity one way or another
Sinning and being miserable
Expressing Jesus and being fulfilled
18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
View of grace - small & weak
26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
God took a spiritual scalpel and cut out your sinful heart and replaced it with a beautiful, new heart that always loves Jesus. (Farley)
Grace is more than forgiveness, more than a ticket to Heaven. Is God’s grace a “get out of jail free” card? Yes, and it’s also a “get a new heart for free” card. We believers should be celebrating both. (Farley)
Not a license to sin; it’s a license to win over sin
Underestimate the Holy Spirit
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
You don't want to sin
It's not your nature
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless
19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.
