Victory in Jesus

a. Deuteronomy 8:1-3
i. Israel had failed miserably
ii. The rejected God’s “promised land”
b. That failure taught them three things

i. The first question I will ask
ii. Is God angry?

iv. I can become so paralyzed with fear
v. I would guess I am not alone in this kind of thinking

a. Too many people, even believers, feel that God does not love them
i. Just how could he love someone like me
ii. They feel unworthy of His love
iii. They feel they have come up short
iv. They are too disobedient
v. They fail too often.
vi. How could God love them when we have gone against his will so much
b. The results of such feelings are…
i. A sense of unworthiness
ii. They condemn their own lives
iii. They become discouraged
iv. They lack any confidence in their own value
v. No self-esteem
vi. They are living defeated lives
c. All of this is a total contradiction of scripture

iii. In the midst of so much dark trouble, would he believe that God loved him?
c. Do you think that Israel ever thought God had abandon them?
i. Wandered in a desert for 40 years
ii. Eating the same meal every day.
iii. I am sure there where some dark days
