24 Leviticus – Keep The Light Burning (Tend The Light, Leviticus 101)
V.1-4 – The Lamp
· Placed just outside the Holy Place
· To burn “Continually” before the Lord
· “Continually” is used 4 times in Leviticus, 3 times in reference to the Lamp, Once for the bread.
· Important lesson
o If the Light went out, the work ceased.
o The children of Israel were responsible for providing the oil for the lamps. If the people fail to see the importance of it – what are they really saying to God
· Jesus said, Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
o Matthew 5:14-16 READ
· Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
· 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
· Today, we are the ones carrying the Light – Let us make sure it doesn’t go out on our watch!
V.5-9 – The 12 Loaves of Bread
· It is most Holy
· Every Sabbath, set before the Lord
· Jesus said, - READ John 6:48-51
V.10-16 – Stoning of a Blasphemer – An abrupt interruption.
· An abrupt interruption, similar to Nadab and Abihu who offered strange fire.
· In the OT, it would seem GOD was serious about a swift judgement
o No tolerance for disrespecting God. Egypt represented bondage, God, deliverance!
§ 100% Jew, 50% Jew, if your in the camp God is God.
o Proper teaching had to be done. Again, the teaching Holiness in all things!
Let’s interrupt here and just say – Godly teaching leads to godly living. The Bible says, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8. If the children don’t hear about the love of God from us, from who will they hear it?
“How sad it is to think of those men and women who have no more concern for the eternal destiny of their child, than leave it up to them to decide who or what they will bow down to! The very ones who refuse to allow their child to ride in a car without sitting in a car seat, or attend school without first getting the proper vaccinations, or ride a bike without a safety helmet, are the very ones who will allow their child to choose their own eternal destiny!” Lunsford.
Choose to be a light, choose to point a child to Christ. Tell the, be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed…
· In the NT we see that Jesus Christ bore that judgement and the wrath of God is stayed.
o And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:12-15
V.17-22 – Whosoever! Not only if you do GOD wrong, but there are rules / law for when you do someone wrong.
· An eye for an eye – for me, this is meant to be a literal translation. ”as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.” V.20
· One Law for all. Whosoever, v.15
V.23 – Obedience to God. God called for an example to be made and the Children of Israel were obedient.
The example given us is Jesus Christ. Now, how shall you choose to live, holy or unholy?
