Text: Eph 6:17, Heb 4:12, Mat 10:34
Intro: One of the most interesting illustrations in the Bible is the sword of the spirit, or the word of God being a sword.
We often can think that the law is supposed to be good and nice and helpful, and this is true.
But we also see illustrated many times in the Bible how the law given is not meant for peace, but meant for rightly dividing truth.
Let's look at three times the Bible is called a sword.
Eph 6:17
We are told to take this for our use in war.
This is one of the things listed needed for us to be successful in battle The sword is fundamentally an offensive weapon.
This is the only one mentioned, the rest is defense.
That shows the importance of being a good swordsman
Heb 4:12
Tells us the word is alive.
It is active and useable.
It is sharp, it has purpose and is good at it’s purpose.
Getting the hearts of man
Mat 10:34
Jesus compares His teachings as a sword, not peace The Prince of Peace admits the nature of the Gospel.
It is for correction and laying of law
Conclusion: if we are to bear the sword in a godly manner, for self benefit, we must learn how to use it.
We must be skilled in our ways.
We know that it is our only offensive weapon, we know that it has purpose of gaining others, and we know that it's purpose is true.
So it is our responsibility to wield it justly.
Do you hold your sword justly?
