1 John 5:1 NRSV
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.
1 John 5:2–3 HCSB
This is how we know that we love God’s children when we love God and obey His commands. For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden,
1 John 5:4–5 HCSB
because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5:6 HCSB
Jesus Christ—He is the One who came by water and blood, not by water only, but by water and by blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
1 John 5:7–8 HCSB
For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water, and the blood —and these three are in agreement.
1 John 5:9–10 HCSB
If we accept the testimony of men, God’s testimony is greater, because it is God’s testimony that He has given about His Son. (The one who believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him. The one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about His Son.)
1 John 5:11–12 HCSB
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life.
Point: Faithful lives to God’s testimony overcome the world.
Close friends, who truly love one another, know and care for each others children. Why? Because to get to know the parents, one gets to know their children. Also, to know the children, is to come to know their parents. One of our best family relationships was started with Lynnette being asked to provide childcare for two boys, and then three, while she was at home with Jordyn and Nyomie, when we lived up in Peace River. From there Lynnette and her girlfriend Larissa developed a very close relationship, which eventually expanded to our families becoming closest of friends. So close in fact, that we went camping at Shaw’s Point on Slave Lake one time, altogether, except for Carl, Larissa’s husband, and were mistaken for a polygamous family - a man with two wives and eight children. Man did we get some looks!
