Your God-given Authority
Your God-given Authority
Last week we talked about being perfect. I would suggest practicing seeking and applying forgiveness before you pray, read your bible, do war, when you know you sinned and so on. This is an important practice because it keeps the connection open between God and yourself.
Everything you do should be done with a clean connection to the Father, through the Son, and at the direction of the Holy Spirit.
You don’t want to get into a situation and find out your connection is muddied. Just as you don’t want to break down on the side of the road with no cell service. As Christians we need to be actively positioning ourselves to receive God’s word, his instructions, and his favor because we are commissioned and called with a high calling.
Each on of you has an amazing calling on your life and God desires you live it to the fullest.
Part of that calling is understanding your authority.
Never walk outside of your Authority.
But I want to open your bible to Luke 10:19
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
You see Satan has the authority over the world, but we are given direct authority over the demonic forces that come against us and against those we are evangelizing too.
Know your limitations
18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
This verse is right in the great commission or right in the great sending. Jesus was sending out disciples into all the world to bring people to God. We are told expressly to make disciples, to baptize them in water and Spirit, and to teach them.
although Satan has the ability to wreak havoc he only has the authority bubble that Jesus allows him to have because we know, as the bible states, Jesus has ALL authority. ALL meaning ALL, but understand that doesn’t mean we have all authority.
Many Christians, when they read that they are given authority attempt to fight everything and everyone. They go out in great ferver, misdirected, and then come back feeling empty and like a failure. The issue is that the church hasn’t taught new believers, and thus older believers, what authority they have.
Look at Michael
9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.”
We in our own power cannot fight against the demonic Spirits that come against us. We will loose, but when a believer exercises the proper authority while positioning themselves in Christ’s authority victory will be had.
Example: A great man once told me that we do not have the authority to send demons back to hell. I had been in the practice when praying to tell demons to go back to hell where they came from, but God appointed a specific time for them and we cannot userp that time frame.
29 And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
What they were asking was :
Are you sending us to hell before the appointed time?
Theologians note several reasons why this was the question, but the main on is that Jesus sent them into the pigs.
1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”
We know that we can direct the enemy to the feet of Jesus because we know that Jesus is making them his footstool.
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
We can command the demons to harm the person, and in extension us no more, but if you follow how Christ took authority and cast demons out of people you will notice that more often than not he just told them to Go or be removed.
2. Know your Power
19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
Nothing can have the power to hurt you.
18 But not a hair of your head will perish!
19 By standing firm, you will win your souls.
We aren’t promised that we won’t come against attacks, but we are promised that they cannot hurt us.
Last week the church experienced an attack of the enemy. For days after I recieved emails aimed at my most vulnerable places. I was told I had no love. I was told I wasn’t a good pastor. I was told that I was slaughtering and beating the sheep in my pasture. The darts came, but every time they came my wife would remind me of the truth.
You can only be hurt when you forget the truth God had given you.
Every lie the enemy tells has a truth from the Father who created you.
In Luke 21 Jesus was telling the disciples.
12 But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake.
16 You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.
17 You will be hated by all for my name’s sake.
But with those comes
13 This will be your opportunity to bear witness.
14 Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer,
15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.
3) Claim your victory
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Notice Satan is crushed under your feet. The term in greek literally means you. Why? Because Jesus uses you to crush Satan when he comes against your life and the life you love. You are guaranteed the victory over him.
God has to do it
You have listen and obey.
I want you to listen to tis clip by David Gibbs
You are given the victroy over sin and death. You are given victory, but you must listen and obey God. Don’t listen to your circumstances, don’t listen to other people, but press your ear to the mouth of God and follow the directions he has given you.
Stay the course.
