relationship is a connection you have with someone, but further than that relationship is a connection built on trust, reliability, and vulnerability.
Weather you are two friends, or boyfriend & girlfriend, or spouse’s
whatever it is the both of you want to know and understand the connection is something you both know you have.
ever had a coworker really try hard to be your friend but you just see them as a coworker.
In their mind they may see a friendship forming but in your mind you find a coworker acquetence.
Its okay for this to happen but there comes a time where its just creepy if two people aren't on the same page,
For instance.
Guy likes a girl....girl likes the guy....but its two different likes.
The guy thinks he is falling for the girl....the girl has discovered a new best friend.
See this can lead to a heart breaking conversation later.
In a relationship You must know the other person is equally invested in the other.
Learning, growing, Being with one another.
God wants that. God wants to have a relationship with you.
I mean so much so that he created this world we are spinning on.
So much so he planned provisions for you.
So much so he places his favor upon you.
So much so that he himself whom was once an invisible God came and resided on this earth lived and died. It is important to know that he died. Upon that day our lives changed.
Upon God living and breathing in the flesh one day upon the next he would be gone.
He did it all. For what’s to come.
Not only are you and I free, forgiven and redeemed.
But we have the power to be in relationship with God.
We have the power that rose Christ from the grave.
We have the power of the Holy Spirit to answer us when we cry out
and when we fall down,
when we leap in faith,
when we walk out into the sharks.
We have the power of the holy spirit and in this power no stone cant be over turned, no mountain cant be moved, no obstacle stand in your way, no amount of hate, anger, or fear can withstand the Power of the Holy Spirit.
When the holy spirit enters into us and dwells among us nothing can slow us down.
NOthing except one very simple thing.....ourselves.
See when we cry out for God we have to cry out not just in our flesh. But focus in and cry out spiritually, Cry out ABBA Father in the depths of our spirit. We cant cry out Spiritually in our flesh.
We cant religiously need Jesus in our lives upon the days of conviction
We must always be in our spirit seeking Jesus.
IN JESUS That is were our Peace comes from,
IN JESUS That is where our trust gets built up,
IN JESUS That is where Our true nourishment is exalted.
Our anointing rest in our spirit not in our bodies,
Our call is to our spirits not our minds.
Stop sitting around doing and began to live spiritually, Amen.
Upon salvation our Spirits are made new, Our minds are becoming renewed, and our bodies are governed by this New & Renewed person we are becoming In Jesus.
Today were focus in on two bodies of scripture that i pray are going to open up a world of spiritual living for you.
Romans 8:5–8 NIV
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
maybe use this here or maybe at the end. Just its like come on important
In the old testament we have a rebellious prophet, in the new testament we have an enslaved teacher/ regular church attender....Lets open these stories up and read them both.
Nineveh we know is a bad ole place, like we have to know that this place is connected with another city of evil.(Gen 18-19)
With Sodom God says he must go down to investigate and what he finds in sodom is so bad he get upset and decides to destroy the entire village.
Genesis 18:21 NIV
21 that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”
similar here in our passage with Jonah an outcry. People have been praying, complaining and advocating for the sin to be taken away from this place.
Where are we here in America…Have we been crying God please come take away these influential eradicating self made God’s of our country and bring us back to our roots with you.
Has God chosen to enter into our country and what he sees is he about to destroy this place. May we cry out to God as abraham did, May we respond as the King of Nineveh did.
Fall to our knees and Beg for God to See Christ righteousness over us. Spare the land and bring us back to our First Love.
Jonah 1:2 NIV
2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”
Jonah 1:5 NIV
5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
Jonah had gone below deck and fell into a deep sleep.
We get comfortable running from God....
Jonah got comfortable in his running.
Prison walls keep us in, but also keep the elements of surprise out.
Sure we barely eat, but you don’t do anything so you don’t need much consumption
Sure we are thirsty, but you are in a damp, cold, dreary basement.
You aren’t getting exahused physically, mentally.
Spiritually we do this to ourselves.
Hurt pain, trauma, ache, annoyances. They all bring us to our knees at some point and we cry out to what sometimes feels like an endless void.
WHERE ARE YOU JESUS?
We don’t know it yet, we may have not dialed in or let our yelling stop, however in the distance, somewhere in the void of space it sout there.
Jesus answering. Here I am
Today as we open up our passage let us read from Jonah 1
Jonah 1 NIV
1 The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord. 4 Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. 6 The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.” 7 Then the sailors said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.” They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. 8 So they asked him, “Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What kind of work do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?” 9 He answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.” 10 This terrified them and they asked, “What have you done?” (They knew he was running away from the Lord, because he had already told them so.) 11 The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, “What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?” 12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.” 13 Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before. 14 Then they cried out to the Lord, “Please, Lord, do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, Lord, have done as you pleased.” 15 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. 16 At this the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows to him. 17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Jonah 1:5 NIV
5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep.
God will get your attention and call you out when he is ready to speak to you
Jonah takes things into his own hands, He attempts to run but God comes, because he is for us not against us.
God isnt coming in anger although we may think this with the thrashing of waves around these poor sailors. God is coming to get attention.
Touch on this
Jonah is fianally released from this fish and travels to ninevah like he is suppose to and begans his journey through the town expelling the message from God.
untill the king heard the message and immediately went into repentance.
This upset jonah and he ends on this
Jonah 4:10–11 NIV
10 But the Lord said, “You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?”
Samaritan woman.
Build up to the last bit of that passage.
Jesus sees who this woman is and where she is.
Sends disciples to the store to get some food, meets the woman where she is and begins to speak to her about water.
samaria a place with no living running water.
A place of on the outside looking in. Half divoted breeded hebrews. Neither liked one another sterotypical hateful relationships between the jews and samaritans..
we wont read the entire story but lets read
John 4:21–26 NIV
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
Jesus didnt care. He offered true life to her. that would change her life.
See she was like jonah where she was doing the right thing she did it for too long. kept getting hurt.
Married 5 times…meaning she had holy matrimony 5 times. She did it the Lords way.
Didnt seem to be wroking so she took it into her own hands.
Jesus calls her out she says she is churched...
Jesus speaks to this woman after such a hard time. After she hit rocks bottom, after she couldnt take it anymore!
We are here at times
we take all that we can and we push it into that well hoping our inner demons stay hidden.
We do to church wishing our inner demons stay hidden.
We stay hidden and locked up in our own jail cells for far to long untill we are finally able to say Jesus come and let this captive free.
We are tired and we are thirsty may you come and quench this old mans thirst.
Then Jesus with those same wide open arms begins to run towards you and grabs you and takes care of you.
Psalm 23 NIV
A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
FOR SURELEY the lord will follow us allll theeee days of our lifes Hallelujah.
Water is where Jonah had to be thrown into, Water is where Jesus met this woman. Water is where you should take your life too after a wilderness season. Water is a place of reflection. Not to see how beat up you are.
No we have determinied like jonah and this samaritian woman we no longer than according to our flesh. But By God may my spirit rest well and easy in your Spirit Heavenly Father.!
No i look into the Mirror now to see my Father right beside me.
Just like God came down because of the crys against sodom. Just like the crys against ninevah God sent Jonah.
The Crys that have kept yo uup at night. The crys next to that hospital phone. The crys he caused you late into the morning, THE CRYS love rain shine. May have come out of you but they travelled upward to heaven and God recieved it! he came down to check on you right where you are and Decided no no YOu little devil you you dont mess with my daughters, you dont mess with my son,s
