Colossians 1:16 KJV 1900
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
God is sovereign is established
Colossians 1:17 KJV 1900
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
I will not be able to handle suffering if I don’t understand God is sovereign
God is in charge
He is on the throne ruling and reigning
Colossians 1:24 KJV 1900
24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church:
Paul was a suffering minister and servant writing to a suffering people
We have a hard time understanding the suffering
Paul rejoiced in his suffering
We all suffer to a certain extent
Life is suffering and you can’t escape without suffering
We must understand there is an eternal purpose for suffering
Understanding medicates the pain of suffering
The purpose was not only for his betterment but for others
which is the church
My suffering is also for you
Your suffering is for others
To Teach the People How To Suffer
I should show you how to suffer and as you learn how to suffer you encourage me and others
Jesus suffered greater things than the apostle Paul
2. Suffering is to teach us to hate sin
1 Peter 4:1 KJV 1900
1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
This protects us from sin
This is a purging process of bad attitudes, mindsets, etc.
1 Peter 4:2 KJV 1900
2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
God is bringing us to a place of hating the flesh
Hate the lies of the world
God’s desire is to bring us into His will - this is a compass to direct us
Brings us to a place of listening,
3. Suffering Teaches us Intercession for God’s people
Jesus never misses praying for us, He is the great intercessor.
Hebrews 4:15 KJV 1900
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Everything that brings us suffering has touched God
Everything that you will go through will touch God
Jesus went through everything that anyone could go through - He understands all that we go through
Hebrews 4:16 KJV 1900
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
God is bringing us to a place of interceding for others
God is bringing us to a place of bearing one-another’s burden’s
The apostles sufferings were for us
our sufferings are for others
Sufferings are for others also.
Physical, financial, emotional
Faithfulness is a message to us
I learned to suffer from others
