Introduction

Noah most likely lived in Mesopotamia between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
This was very far away from a large lake or sea where a boat of this size would be useful.
Noah obeyed Gods command from the start and did what God told him to do and did it without any complaint.

Noah Responded to God’s Word

God told Noah that he was getting ready to destroy the world because of its wickedness.
Then He told Noah that He wanted him to build a huge boat that would protect his whole family from the rain that we was going to send.
However Noah did not know what rain was because it had never rained on the earth before.
God also told Noah to collect 2 animals of each kind to bring to the Ark.
Noah had never even seen all the animals of the world much less knew how to care for them.

Building the Ark

Have you ever thought what it was like for Noah building the Ark?
He could not just run down to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the wood.
He had to find the right kind of wood.
He had to cut down the trees.
He had to cut the limbs off.
Then he had to cut the logs into useable timbers.
He had to do this work mostly by himself.
Noah did all this out of Faith because he did not even know what rain was.

Facts About the Ark

Volume: 1,396,000 cubic feet
Gross Tonage: 14,000 Tons
Capacity: Around 500 Railroad stock Cars
It could hold more than 125,000 sheep-sized animals

Noah Rebuked The World

God did not just call Noah to build the ark He also called him to preach to the people.
As Noah preached in the background was the very source of both the peoples damnation and their Salvation.
They stood there looking at the very thing that could save them or the thing that would help in their destruction.
The job of preaching was probably harder than the job of building the Ark.
Noah was probably on the wrong end of some bad jokes and teasing from the people in the towns and the rest of His tribe.
Noah was telling the people that what they were doing was wrong and that God was going to punish them for their lifestyles.
It was Noah’s job to warn them that God would soon judge them because of their wickedness and unbelief.

God’s Mercy

Its hard to see Gods mercy in this story but its there.
The Ark was huge it had plenty of room for more people.
God had Noah to preach for 120 years to warn people about what was coming. Gen 6:3
Genesis 6:3 ESV
3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
Much like the people in Jesus’ day the people were looking salvation in the face and did not see it.

Noah Received God’s Righteousness

The proof of Noah’s faith was the righteousness that he received from God.
This righteousness is only given to those who trust in Him.
Noah was the very first person in the Bible to be called righteous.
This was the result of his faith.
the other part of his faith was the world that we have around us today.
If Noah did not have the faith that he did none of us would be here.
Everyone who believes in God until their feet are put to the Fire.
When tested what will your faith look like.

081 BENEDICTION

And now, may the only true God

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,

In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,

Most blessed and glorious, the Ancient of Days,

Be to you glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
