If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
Let them be cursed who do not love the Lord Jesus Christ.
There were many things going on in the church of Corinth. There was division, there were false teachers, there were those who were only concerned about self, there was a man having sexual relations with his stepmother, there were other believers suing other believers carrying them to secular courts.
Simply put, when we love God, we are going to do right by God, and we are not going to do things purposefully to hurt one another.
Division in the church hurts one another, it hinders our work for the LORD. False teachers can destroy a church, it hinders, hurts, and can destroy a persons faith and their relationship with God, when you love self......you are more prone to engaging in carnal fleshly behaviors, sexual impurity hurts us and it also hurts others.
In the case of the man who was committing sexual sins with his step-mother, this was a serious, serious thing. Paul says not even the gentiles commit such acts. He likened the act to leaven and he says that when leaven is in bread it spreads. If they see this man doing wrong and it is not addressed, then others would feel that it is okay to do.
Paul said in 1 Cor 5:4 that the church must call a meeting and then throw this un-repented man out of the church and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns. This means, he was to be ex-communicated from the church (banned) he was to be given over to Satan, which means that eventually that sin was going to destroy him or consume him, bringing him to a point of true repentance, leading him to salvation on the day the Lord returns.
When Paul ends his later and suggest that anyone “who doesn’t love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha, it is a curse that is pronounced upon that individual. You are put out of the church and then you are cursed and the opposite of blessings is curses. Paul is not simply referring to those who don’t know Jesus, those who are unsaved, he is referring to those who know the scriptures, those who know the way, but then decide to turn to another way. When you have a relationship with God and you are God’s child, and then you decide to go your own way and follow your own desires, you are ANATHEMA MARANATHA. Let me tell you, you don’t need nobody to put you out the church, you can put your own-self out of the church and when you put yourself out of the church, I’m not talking about the physical edifices, because you can get put out of one church and go to another church, but when you get put out of the body of Christ......YOU ARE IN TROUBLE!!! You’re life will be in shambles and won’t nothing go right in your life.
Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s wife; because he uncovereth his father’s skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen.
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store. Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The LORD shall send upon thee cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand unto for to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.
