The wonder of humanity

There are moments that living in our world can be terrifying…and heartbreaking. There’s no way to sugar coat the horror... humanity is capable of inflicting on one another...
This past Monday (the 4th of July) a shooter killed at least 6 people an injured many more in Chicago...
We all know of the devastating results of the multi-month war in The Ukraine...
At times of heightened tension around the world…in the economy…in politics…dealing with a pandemic...and in the day-to-day lives of people across our nation and world...
Its a wonder that we have not annihilated…one another…100x over...
Eckhart Tolle is quoted as saying:
“Pick up any history book, and I suggest you begin with studying the 20th century, and you will find that a large part of the history of our species has all the characteristics we would normally associate with a nightmare or an insane hallucination.”
Amercian Scholar William Lyon Phelps added:
“The fear of life is the favorite disease of the 20th century.”
-William Lyon Phelps
That describes so many people in our present world. In fact…Phelps might have been on to something...
In the lead up to March 11, 2022…the two year anniversary of the official beinning of the Pandemic...
...The American Psychological Association partnered with The Harris Poll...to conduct a survey between February 7 and 14, 2022. In light of recent events leading up to its release, the survey was supplemented by a late-breaking poll, fielded March 1-3.

The results were released on March 11, 2022
What did the poll find?
These are “significant sources of stress” for most people that took this survey.
Where does your mind…your heart…most often go when you’re feeling stressed?
Many of us dwell on the source of our stress in hopes of lessening the effects of that stress…that however rarely works...
Might I suggest to you this morning…to focus on what our scripture reading focused on…namely…the wonder and majesty of God…as a source of comfort and hope in your times of stress...
