I. The Timelessness of Jesus vs. 10-11a
I. The Timelessness of Jesus vs. 10-11a
A. Jesus created the universe and all it’s galaxies ex nilio out of nothing. Before there was any concept of time, Jesus was.
B. Because of that Jesus is timeless. He doesn’t change. Vintage cars, and antiques are great, but are dated by time. Jesus isn’t dated. He is as contemporary/relevant as ever. It is a timeless message. (Charles Spurgeon ex)
C. This Earth and everyone/everything in it has an expiration date. Jesus doesn’t. He is eternal.
II. The Changing of Nature vs. 11b-12
II. The Changing of Nature vs. 11b-12
A. This Earth and Heaven will be replaced. Rev. 21:1
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
B. Jesus’ years literally never run out. Yet creation’s years are ticking away. Rom. 8:22
For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.
III. The Purpose of Angels vs. 13-14
III. The Purpose of Angels vs. 13-14
A. Jesus’ enemies are defeated. He defeated death, hell, and the grave when He stepped out of the tomb. The angels couldn’t do that.
B. Angels are ministering to Christians. But they cannot preach. Acts 10:3-7
About the ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just come in and said to him, “Cornelius!”
And fixing his gaze on him and being much alarmed, he said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
“Now dispatch some men to Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called Peter;
he is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea.”
When the angel who was speaking to him had left, he summoned two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,
Holy, holy, is what the angels sing,
And I expect to help them make the courts of Heaven ring;
But when I sing redemption’s story, they will fold their wings,
For angels never felt the joys that our salvation brings.
