Let me invite you to take your Bibles this morning and turn to 1st Peter chapter 5. 1st Peter chapter 5.
This morning as we have the opportunity to look at the word of God.
We're currently have been looking at 1st Peter 5:1.
Which says, therefore I exhort the elders, among you as your fellow Elder in witness of the sufferings of Christ.
And a partaker.
Also the glory that is to be revealed.
And as we've been looking at what Peter says here in verse 1, we have been introduced to the subject of Elders and church leadership.
And we've been looking at the big picture from scripture about this office in the church.
That's identified by the terms of Elder Pastor overseer Shepherd.
All these terms are used interchangeably for this one office in the church, which we normally identify as pastor.
And I don't know if you know this, but scripture only identifies, two offices in the church and that is overseer.
Her Pastor Elder.
And deacons.
That's Philippians 11.
Overseers feed the flock, deacons serve the flock.
And all pastors are Elders, all pastors our overseers, all pastors are Shepherds.
And that's what we've been looking at.
And we've been seeing that for the past three weeks and we're looking at it again today.
And then our last time together, we were looking at versus two and three of 1st Timothy 3. As we've been answering a question how our elders qualified.
So, just take your finger and hold it in 1st, Peter 5, and just flipped over the 1st.
Timothy Chapter 3, 1st Timothy Chapter 3 and as a said, we've already looked at the first three verses.
We're looking at Verses 4 through 7. Now because verses 1 through 7 is dealing with the office of overseer.
The office of Elder.
Pastor verses 8 through 13 deal with the office of deacon.
But right now, we're just looking at the office of Elder since Peter has mentioned that.
Just take a moment and read what we have here in 1st Peter.
Our first Timothy rather chapter 3.
He says it is a statement, If any man aspires to the office.
An overseer did must be above reproach.
The husband of one wife temperate prudent.
Respectable hospitable able to teach not addicted to wine or pugnacious but gentle free from the love of money.

Well, keeping his children under control with all dignity.
A man does not know how to manage his own household.
How would he take care of the Church of God?
And not a new convert so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil.
And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil Now, if you hold your place there, you can remove your finger from 1st Peter 5 and I'll have all your fingers spread out right in the New Testament and go over to Titus one, but to hold your place in 1st Timothy 3 because in Titus 1 verses 6 through 9, we find the qualifications again.
Summer overlapping 1st, Timothy Chapter 3 but there are also a few others that are mentioned here.

And as I said, we have already answered the question.
What is an elder?
And what do they do?
And now we're looking at what qualifies them miss you go to chapter 3 and verse 1 and 1st Timothy, we saw several things that qualified them
The holy spirit is the one who calls Elders into that office at 2028, says, be on guard for yourselves.
