THE LORD’S SUPPER

TEXT 1 Corinthians 11:23-34

I.    THE DIVINE AUTHORITY OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

A.       It is an ordinance of Christ

1.      "Do this"

B.       It is a tradition of the apostolic times

C.       It started in Christ’s own lifetime and remains unbroken today

II.  THE DOCTRINAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

A.       It is a memorial of Christ and especially His death

B.       It is a service of thanksgiving

C.       It is a symbol and means of spiritual nourishment

D.       It is a bond of fellowship and brotherhood

III.THE SPIRITUAL PROFIT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

A.       It is a means of fellowship with the unseen redeemer who in this service draws near to those who draw near to Him

B.       It is a profession of faith, attachment loyalty

C.       It is a testimony to the unbelieving world around

Christ represents lamb without spot or blemish-our sacrifice

Breaking of the bread                                                                         Luke 22:19

        Unleavened bread represents purity

The Cup                                 Luke 22:20

        Blood represented atoning for a sin

IV.     FEETWASHING John 13:4-17

A.       Servant ministry to others (vs. 4-5)

B.       Servant ministry from others (vs. 6-7)

C.       Nothing to interfere with their relationship with Jesus (vs. 8-9)

D.       Taught servant hood by example (vs. 12-15)
