We need to be grounded.

No I am not talking about having “time-out” though I could go for that sometimes. I am talking about the need to feel centered, present, and “in control”.

Question: how can we be blessed?

All religions talk about being a blessing and knowing you are blessed by God, or whatever god they talk about.

Question: is there a “right” way to live? If so, what is it?

Our world and country are looking for the path forward.

God’s Word produces true life!

This is one of the main points of Psalm 119, the longest Psalm and chapter in all of Scripture.

To be grounded in the Word takes intentionality.

It will not happen by accident. Psalm 119 is a testimony to intentionality. The writer of the Psalm uses the Hebrew alphabet to create the Psalm. In fact, every line of each stanza begins with the corresponding letter of the alphabet. This was not just an artistic expression.

Fully committed to the Scriptures does not mean easy life.

We see this in the Psalmist as we start to realize in the early verses that life is not “all okay”. There seems to be trouble. This is why at least one scholar has suggested this is a Psalm of Lament. I think there are definitely elements of lamenting the way life is but this Psalm is more than just a lament.

We must bury God’s Word deep.

This is not burying as to hid something like we typically think of in our culture. It is burying God’s Word in order to produce the way of life. Similar to how a farmer buries a seed not to protect it but to allow the seed to do what it was created to do.

Neglect is not always intentional.

Neglect to some extent carries the understanding of forgetting to do what is healthy.

Ultimate goal: live the life God intends.

It is not about what we want or how we “feel” but instead about what God intends.
