1 Peter 2:9–10 ESV
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Have you ever been chosen to be a part of something?
When I was growing up at recess we played sports. Football, basketball, softball. and most recesses we chose teams. Two classmates would be captains, the rest of the class would be chosen to be a part of a team. Then we would played until the bell rang.
When I was just a baby, my parents, who are now with Jesus, chose to bring me to Jesus. Because the loved me and trusting in Jesus’ word and promises, they brought me to the church, and on October 31, 1954, and I was baptized, Happy day for me! That day, God chose me to be His child, a part of His family forever through my baptism. I am so blessed.
Peter, in our reading today, says everyone has been baptized is chosen by God, and is a royal priest, is a part of God’s holy nation belonging to God, AND we have a purpose:
To proclaim Jesus. To tell others about Jesus. What could we tell people about Jesus? Wait for responses.
We can tell them that Jesus died for and rose from the dead for them that they too may be a part of God’s church, His family forever. We can tell them “Jesus loves them.” Repeat after me, “Jesus loves you.”
Let’s pray, thank you, Jesus, for being my Savior. Thank you for loving me. Help me, Holy Spirit, to tell others that you love them too, so that they may be chosen and believe, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
You are blessed, Jesus loves you.
