How well do you know God? How can you get to know God better?
“Pleased to make your acquaintance.” This is how you finished a meet and greet with a dignitary.
You learn about someone by what they do and what they say. (Elaborate) The same is true about God. You know God by what He has done, and the things he has said. (Preach)
1. God’s Works declare His Glory (v.1-6)
1. God’s Works declare His Glory (v.1-6)
James Webb Telescope $9.7 Billion. Deepest picture of the universe to date. (Preach)
Psalm 8:3-9 “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!”
God’s creation is its own witness to the glory of God. Nature is communicating to us that God is real. Look at v.2. The days, the sun and moon’s transition in the sky are trying to tell us something. The bible says that they pour our speech. That even though they don’t have mouths to talk, “their voice goes out through all the earth”. If creation can tell of the mighty works of God, how much more should we tell of the mighty works of God in our lives.
Declares God’s Glory
The Sun’s heat is felt everywhere in the world. Some more places than others but the truth is still there. The heat is too much, v.6.
The same way God’s creation is all around, the same way nothing is hidden from the sun’s heat, is the same way that nothing is hidden from God. He is all omnipresent.
2. God’s Word Restores His People (v.7-11)
2. God’s Word Restores His People (v.7-11)
David gives 7 descriptions (perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, true, desirable) of God’s word, and with them 7 blessings (restore, wisdom, rejoicing, enlightening, enduring, righteous, rewarding).
I want to visit four of these in more detail: Restore, make wise, rejoicing the heart, and rewarding.
Restore the soul
Make wise the Simple (instructions air fryer)
Rejoicing the heart
