6 Biblical Truths about our relationship with our parents. 1. Our Parents are responsible for raising us and providing for us.
Matthew 7:9-11 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
2. Our Parents are responsible for instilling knowledge and wisdom in our lives.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, andshall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
3. We must pay attention to parental wisdom & instruction.
Proverbs 1:8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
Proverbs 13:1 A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.
4. We are called to honor and obey our parents.
Deuteronomy 5:16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Ephesians 6:1-2 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother“ which is the first commandment with a promise
Luke 2:49 "Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"
Luke 2:51-52 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
5. Discipline hurts, but it’s for our own good.
Hebrews 12:9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined usand we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!
Proverbs 13:1 A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.
6. Our parents Make mistakesand we must forgive.
Ephesians 6:4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Colossians 3:21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
