7:00-7:10 Welcome
7:10-7:54 Message
7:54-8:15 Table Discussion
8:15-8:25 Prayer
Intro: Hello everyone! My name is Amber Hinrichsen and I am your MC for the night. I wanted
to give a quick introduction to our plans for the night during this workshop before we got started.
Our workshop title is “Created in the Image of God” and tonight we will be watching a lesson
from Jen Wilkin at The Gospel Coalition Conference. On your tables you will find a couple
things that correspond to our video tonight. One of them is a handout to help you follow along.
There are also extra pens if you would like to take notes as we go. The next thing you will find
on your table are note cards and discussion questions. (or at the end of the handout you will find
discussion questions, those go along with the notecards and will be used at the end of the video
tonight.) Those questions are things you will talk through with those at your table and discussion
leaders at your table. I want you to have them ahead of time so that you can think through them
while Jen is talking. And before we get started I want to pray to prepare our hearts as we come
before the Lord tonight—
“Lord, thank you for this evening and the space you have given us here at Crosspoint to
come together to understand You more and how we relate to you. Thank you for all the women
here who carved the time out of their busy lives to sit before you. I pray Lord that you would fill
them tonight; with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding at Jen Wilkin preaches from your
word. Help all of us come to you with open hands, being willing to lay down the things in our
lives that we are holding so close because we know that you are a loving, gracious, and good
Father. Thank you for people in our lives that we can learn from. I pray that this video and the
discussions these women are going to have at their table will be life giving, sanctifying, honest,
answers as they think through how to bear your image. Thank you Lord that you are holy and
perfect. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.”
Video Break Down
1. The Knowledge of God and the Knowledge of Self
1. The Knowledge of God and the Knowledge of Self
BUT we fall into a habit of asking, “who am I?” when we read the bible.
John Calvin, “there is no true knowledge of self, apart from the knowledge of God.”
We get self-knowledge by measuring ourselves against something to see how well we are
doing. Usually to the people around us. We deceive ourselves to think we are doing better
than we actually are.
As we learn more about God and who He is in scripture, it rightly orients us to God and
others. (Living out the two greatest commandments) EX: Isaiah 6, Peter in Luke 5
2. How the Bible as a Book about God
2. How the Bible as a Book about God
Incommunicable attributes:
omniscient meaning all knowing
omnipresent meaning present everywhere at the same time
omnipotent meaning having all power and control
Communicable attributes: loving, gracious, merciful, just, faithful, patient
Q: Why were we created? A: Genesis 1:27, to bear the image of God.
What is image bearing?
Means we are Gods representatives here on earth. When
people look at us and see things that tell them about God. This gives all of us value.
3. What Should I do vs. Who Should I be?
3. What Should I do vs. Who Should I be?
God is more worried about who you are than what you do.
God’s will is that you would bear His image. His image is in us, but it has been marred, His goal is that it will be
sharpened in you and His image would be made clear.
God’s will in your life: “Be Holy for I am Holy.” Lev 11:44-45, 19:2, 20:7, 20:26, 1 Thes
4:3&7, Matthew 5:48, 1 Peter 1:14-16. His will is to be Holy, Sanctified, Set Apart.
Growing in our hatred of sin. Growing to be loving, just, good, merciful, gracious,
faithful, truthful, patient, wise. Learning to think and speak and act as Christ.
4. The will of God is not hidden from you.
4. The will of God is not hidden from you.
Matthew 22:15-22
Is it lawful to pay the tax to Rome? If yes, the Jews are against Jesus. If no, the Romans
arrest Him.
Vs 22 “when they heard Him they marveled.” The coin bears the image of Tiberius, give
to him what is his. Whose image do you bear? Render to God what is Gods.
Alright, has God not given wisdom to Jen Wilkin to be able to teach His word? What a good
reminder and call to bear the Image of God. As I said before we are going to use this remaining
time to go over the discussion questions with your tables. Your leaders will have instructions on
how to use the note cards as you work through these questions tonight. I want to implore you to
be open and honest with your table tonight. This is part of being the body of Christ, coming
together as a community and sharing our struggles, our hardships, and were God is growing us.
Satan wants us to hide away our sin and tries to convince us that no one else needs to know. But
we know that confession and honesty is what God uses to grow us. This is a judgement free zone
as we are all fallen sinners. You’ll have about 25 minutes to go through the discussion questions
and then we will spend the last 10 minutes praying in our groups over our answers.
Just a reminder, it has been 25 minutes. If you guys could wrap up your discussions and start
praying through your answers as a table, we have about 10 minutes and then you all are
dismissed.
Discussion Questions:
1. What question have you been asking God?
What should I do? Or, Who should I be?
2. What is one thing you can do this week to learn to think, speak, and act like Jesus? So
that you can bear the image of God.
3. What choice in your life enables you to be more like Christ?
