Introduction:
Illustration of “one way” road sign.
The meaning of the sign.
The purpose of the sign.
In religion, there is only one true way to eternal salvation.
However, the world thinks otherwise.
Atheism believes there is no way.
Cannot be correct, intelligent design demands an intelligent creator.
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
“Every-time I watch a storm I know the awesome power of my Lord” (Every Time, 168).
Omnism believes all ways are correct:
Christians will be saved.
Muslims will be saved.
Buddhist will be saved.
Even agnostics and atheists will be saved.
Cannot be correct, man must “come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4).
Ecumenicalism believes that every fraction (denomination) of the “Christendom” will be saved.
Baptists will be saved.
Methodists will be saved.
Presbyterians will be saved.
Cannot be correct, we are to have no divisions and fractions (1 Cor. 1:10).
What we can see is that there is only one way to religious truth (i.e. Jesus Christ).
Discussion:
Jesus, The Way To A Better Life.
Jesus offers an abundant life (cf. John 10:10).
Though He does not promise wealth or luxury, He does assure us of more than sufficient provisions for those who faithfully follow Him (cf. Mark 10:29-30).
The life offered by Jesus is ultimately better since we are not slaves to “ungodliness and worldly desires” (Titus 2:12).
Jesus, The Way To Forgiveness.
Jesus is the only solution to the most serious threat to our well being that we face: SIN!
We all sin (Romans 3:23).
The consequences of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
Yet out of love, God offered Jesus as the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:9-10).
Through His blood shed on the cross, those in Christ have the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7).
Jesus, The Way To God.
Jesus came to this world to reconcile man back to God the Father (John 14:6).
Only through Jesus are we able to draw near to God.
Jesus, The Way Out Of Religious Confusion.
Religious scholars and historians estimate that there are approximately 38,000 denominations in the world today.
Jesus certainly does not approve it:
He taught of the harm of division (Matthew 12:25).
He prayed for His followers to be united (John 17:20-21).
He promised to build His church (Matthew 16:18).
Jesus, The Way To Eternal Life.
Jesus taught that there are two paths to eternity (Matthew 7:13-14).
One way leading to death and destruction.
One way leading to life and protection.
To dies in Jesus is to die in the way of life eternal (John 11:25).
Conclusion:
What we can see from this lesson is that...
There is one true way to eternal life and fellowship with God.
That one true way is none other than Jesus Christ Himself (John 14:6).
There are two reasons for my lessons.
For those who are Christians...
To increase our appreciation of Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.
So we may serve Him with greater zeal.
For those who are not Christians...
To encourage you to let Jesus be your way to “everything that pertains to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3).
Both in this life and in the life to come!
Invitation.
