Healing the Broken Hearted Child
Luke 4:18–19 (NASB95)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, 19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
I read this now in the king james
Luke 4:18–19 (KJV 1900)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Notice jesus confirm they fact that this is anointing on his life
1. preach the gospel to the needy (which is all of us)
2. Heal the brokenhearted
3. preach deliverance
4. recover the sight of the blind
5. set people free
6. preach the year of the Lord
I want focus on number 2 and 4 since we are talking about love this month
Let me say that only Jesus is the true anointed one.
Now there are people who have anointing but it all come from Jesus!
Those who cast out demon and heal the sick all do it in the name and authority of Jesus Chirst
So Jesus says there is a anointing on me I am the anoint will who will preach the gospel.
And Heal the broken hearted.
Looking though the lenses of a broken heart can and will disturb the true image that we see.
Have you ever look trough broken glass. The image that you are looking at is not only unclear but jumbled and disfigured imperfect
That why he then says
1. preach deliverance
2. recover the sight of the blind
3. set people free
4. preach the year of the Lord
preach deliverance. People people know they can and will be free from this brokenness
recover the sight of the blind
now I also want to focus on that one
Open the eyes of the blind help us see clearly and not walk in deception
Remember when we talk about the slaves jesus gave the talents to?
20 “Another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept put away in a handkerchief; 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are an exacting man; you take up what you did not lay down and reap what you did not sow.’
‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. 21For I feared you, because you are an austere (servere) man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.
This last servant this evil man had a wrong theological understanding of Christology and eschatology and Christology
He saw God as hard man and not kind and loving. He saw God as unfair and not faithful
The reality is God is God and faithful
The problem was the man inner eyes
I heard it said before that we are the sum total of what we have been through.
Many times our reaction to present situation are determined by past experience
That why I always say the past isn’t the past till its past.
Our perception of the present time can be distorted by past hurts.
For some of us the brokenness is so deep that we react violently to the simplest of problem.
Jesus says about himself that he came to set the captives free.
To all those who have been broken and resulted in bondage to their past pains, bitterness, and offence.
Jesus says I have to bind up your broken heart before I can set you free. Because if I set you free first you still act like you in jail.
God just doesn’t just pick up the broken piece he take the vessel and makes it new.
Jeremiah 18:2–6 (NASB95)
2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will announce My words to you.” 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something on the wheel. 4 But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make. 5 Then the word of the Lord came to me saying, 6 “Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.
If you can see this morning God want to give you new glasses in you heart.
We have to learn to trust God with our broken heart
Psalm 51:17 (NASB95)
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
Now this is David pray of repentance from sin
And he tell God you are not disgusted by my shattered heart.
It is not to much work for you to pick it up piece by piece
I wanna quote a civil right activist when he says
We fall down sometimes but we get back up again because the ground is no place for a champion.
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, 19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
There is a voice from heaven and it is loud and its says you can get up.. I rose so that you can rise it.
Let me mend you brokenness
Let me set you free
Let me fix your looking glass
I am the lord who heals
a couple ago of years I had a dream. I wont tell you all of it but
It was about my grandmother I think she was dying I talk to her then woke up from my dream in tears
I cried. Now my grandmother died almost 30 years ago when I was like 7
I hardly remember her.
But there was some child broken they the lord was showing me that I need to deal with
Many time there are pains from the past that we don’t realize have a hold on us
That’s why david said
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.
"Pain is not a problem in and of itself. But rather, it is a symptom, a sign of something gone wrong. When one places their hand on a stove, the problem is not the pain but it's the fact they are doing something that shouldn't be done. The pain in this world is simply a sign that something is wrong; something is seriously messed-up. Without pain, we may never realize that something is wrong.'
~ Paule Patterson III
pain reveals the brokenness that God reveals at the moment when it is time to deal with it
It is the intent of evil to inflict pain. Through pain Satan gain a place.
“and see if there be any way of pain in me”
Pain tempted Jeremiah to doubt the character of God.
18 Why has my pain been perpetual And my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will You indeed be to me like a deceptive stream With water that is unreliable?
Pain and brokenness can cause our heart to be hard.
That’s why he says know my heart.
The heart…
1. Refuses to become vulnerable
2. Refuses to be bonded
3. Isolated and alienated (death of the soul)
4. Heart of stone
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
Anxious thoughts
Denial and suppression
1. Must use increasing energy to keep truth out of awareness.
2. Increased activity to avoid being present to oneself (tv ect)
3. Hiding and covering.
Pain kept inside can produce chronic sadness and depression. Pain repressed can hit others through anger, rage, blame, and a critical spririt.
God will help us in our pain. There is a way of escape.
13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
Broken produce pain and cause anxiety
And we must deal with our anxiety. WHO???
1 Peter 5:7–8 (NASB95)
7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
We have a God that is anoint to heal our brokenness.
We have a God who care
We have a God who desire is to set us free from all bondage
Look at the next verse
8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Be sober,, your adversary is the devil not God. Prowling like a lions seeking who he may devour.
He’s a fake an imposter a phony… when I take out the broken looking glass I can see the truth
We have a wonderful daddy in heaven who loves and cares for us and we can go to Him with all of our problems and cares.
And he saids
Proverbs 23:26 (NASB95)
26 Give me your heart, my son, And let your eyes delight in my ways.
26 Give me your heart, my son,
and watch this
And let your eyes delight in my ways.
Time to see clearly
That’s why the father sent the son.
Who you think anointed Jesus? He was anointed by the father therefore you can trust Jesus with your heart
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16)
Notice here that Jesus is the Son of God, our high priest, the Lamb of God, and the bridegroom.
He came in flesh and as the Son of Man was tempted and can sympathize with our weakness.
He is seated at the right hand of the Father and we who are joined to Him as sons can approach our Daddy in heaven anytime, with anything and He will give us grace, He will be merciful to us and He will help us.
We must learn to go to our Father and release those who have hurt us. Give Him our pain and our weakness and let Him deal with it.
The devil comes to steal and kill and destroy, but Jesus said, “I come that you might have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10)
Resist the devil, James tells us, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
We must submit our problems to God, resist the devil, stand firm in our faith and God’s promise is that He will perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish us.
One must break denial and suppression by facing pain or dealing with it.
1. Share pain with God in prayer.
2. Share it with others being honest
3. Release through forgiveness- lay your life down, all rights, all loses.
4. Allow the Holy spirit to carry you to the sourse of the pain.
a. Parent/child relationship
b. Childhood
c. Early teens
d. Late teens
e. Marriage
These relationships usually carry the deepest pains and brokenness. It is pain suffered alone that remain
Im going to close by reading out of my book “The Heart of a Son,”
We must submit ourselves to God and His ministry, but we must also seek ministry from others. God did not make man an island. We need each other. We need to pray for each other and stand with one another. “Knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.” (1 Peter 5:9) When you see pain, bitterness and unforgiveness building up in your heart, don’t hide or cover it. Deal with it. Take it to the Father and find fathers and mothers in the faith to pray with you. “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16 KJV) When you have faults, shortcomings or sin, find yourself a righteous godly man or woman to pray for you. For the effective prayers of a righteous man or woman accomplish much. Confess your faults, pain, sin, weakness, bitterness and unforgiveness to your Father and them release them and let them go.
You stand fast in faith by trusting God. Many of us have been so hurt that we cannot trust others enough to confess our faults to. Some are so hurt they don’t even trust God. We have to give our heart to God by faith and know He will never hurt us.
A fire ran through the suburb of a small town one night. One family in their panic to escape the fire ran out and left their young boy in the house. Afraid and scared, he ran to his upstairs window and cried for help. His father ran underneath him and told him to jump. He yelled back to his father, “I can’t, because I don’t see you.” Then his father shouted, “But son, I see you.” Then the son jumped and his father caught him in his arms. The son did not do this because he saw his father. He did this because he trusted his father. Sons and daughters, trust God and jump. He will catch you in his arms.”
