Last week we talked about our God given authority. And this morning we are going to continue to dive into what it means to have Authority in the Spiritual Realms. As Christians I believe we don’t have to be victims of the sin of this world, but we are called to be victors over the sin in this world. But the
Number one killer of our Authority over demonic forces is PRIDE.
Pride will get you in trouble. When you start to walk pridefully you walk in sin. Remember last week we talked about the commissioning of the 70 believers. God gave them authority over demons and they came back astounded by the power they wielded and Jesus’ immediate response was not to indulge the power hungry baby christians, but rather to draw their attention to God whom is the source of their authority. So this morning I want to talk about the source of your authority before we get too far into what your authority is.
1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Authority is Pivotal in your life.
So Paul is talking to the Roman church about obeying Authority. The Romans weren’t respectful of the Christian people and in all actuality Nero killed a vast multitude of them. But as we discussed last week Heaven is like a court system and the rules must be followed whether they are easy or not.
In order to work in your God given authority it means you must obey those who are put in Authority over you. I believe obeying Authority is the Achilles heal for most Christians
You can’t rebel against those who are put over you and expect God to bless you.
WE live in a world where if we don’t like what’s going on we go somewhere else. Pastor made a choice I don’t agree with- go to another church. I didn’t get the promotion I wanted- Go find another place of work. My boss doesn’t understand me. Talk bad about them in the break room.
But here is the biggest revelation God has given me:
We have so many options in today’s world that we no longer wait for the breakthrough. We just find another path.
Your emotions or circumstances shouldn’t dictate your obedience to the Word of God.
Your resistance to the Authority placed over you may be the very thing that has prolonged the battle in your life. When we align ourselves properly in the word of God, we position ourselves in the flow of Authority, and we find ourselves breaking through the barrier.
Do not avoid conflict. Submit yourselves to God and you will breakthrough your conflict. Authority Matters.
God delegates His authority and when we learn to fit into our place within then authority miracles will happen.
2. Authority was pivotal at the cross.
11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
In this moment Jesus wasn’t questioning Pilot’s Authority. Jesus was reminding to informing Pilot as to where his Authority came, but Jesus submitted to Pilots Authority.
Jesus said God has allowed this moment to happen for the greater good of the Kingdom. When we step outside of the Authorty God put down we can put a stop to miracles in our lives.
In order to understand your authority you must understand the position of authority over you.
2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
3. The exception
There is an exception to following the Governing Authority, but it still doesn’t mean what we as Christians think it’s supposed to mean.
When the Authority above us stands against the bible we can resist the authority and stand with the word of God.
Let’s take a look
12 There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
In this moment these 3 men defied the Authority God had put over them, but we need to understand something first.
These three men, when they heard that there was an order to worship the king didn’t find another town to live in. They didn’t find another king to worship. They didn’t flee. Too many Christians when we face conflict we tend to run away, we bad mouth those in charge, and we remove the blessing God intended for us.
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up?
15 Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”
They knew the consequence. They knew what would happen when they defied the king. But they still didn’t run away. They stood for what was right. They stood for what God had said.
They took the consequence of standing for God.
Many believers want to stand for god but we run from the consequences. You can’t stand for God and run at the same time.
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
17 If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
They stood before God. They stood before the king. They stood in the furnace and the blessing:
28 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.
The king was saved. And the men were promoted.
Your promotion depends on how well you will withstand the furnace. Your promotion will depend on how well you handle authority in your life. If you can’t follow God will not promote you to lead. And if you can’t stand in the hard times God will not use you to stand in the victorious, because often times the way to victory is through tough battles.
