Why The World Thinks The Christian Is Strange

Titus 2:11–15 KJV (WS)

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

I. A CHRISTIAN IS ONE WHO BELIEVES THE UNBELIEVABLE

Over and over again the Bible declares that men become Christians by believing. Believing what? Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. But what does it mean to believe in Christ? To believe in Christ about what He says concerning Himself, concerning His virgin birth, His eternal existence as Son of God and God the Son, His death for sinners, and that atoning death as the only way of salvation.

II. A Christian Is One Who Does The Imposible

Christianity is supernatural, it moves in the realm of miracle, it enables men to do what cannot be done. It is overstatement, of course, but it is literally true of the Christian, for all things are possible to him that believeth, and a Christian does many things no one else can do.

A. HE DECIDES HIS OWN BIRTH

B. HE CHOOSES ALSO HIS OWN FATHER

C. MOREOVER, THE CHRISTIAN SELECTS HIS OWN FAMILY

III. MOREOVER, A CHRISTIAN IS ONE WHO KNOWS THE UNKNOWABLE

There are certain things within the bounds of man’s knowledge, and there are other things man cannot know apart from the revelation of God.

IV. THEN, TOO, A CHRISTIAN IS ONE WHO ATTAINS THE UNATTAINABLE

The righteousness of God! Think of it! Sinful men actually attain the place of perfect righteousness because they have imputed to them the spotless perfection of God’s sinless Son.

How we ought to be thrilled with the wonder and the glory of it! Accepted before God! Yet this unattainable place is something obtained by all the sons of God.

V. FINALLY, A CHRISTIAN IS ONE WHO SEES THE INVISIBLE.

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
