The Hour Has Come

Jesus knew from the beginning what His purpose was. He was to reconcile sinful man back to the Father by giving His life sacrificially on the cross and resurrecting from the dead. Here he is a day away from this happening. It is an important day because it is the day not only that He fulfills His purpose but becomes truly known as God’s Son.
In order to understand the magnitude of this we see that this time is appointed by God. We see three times in Jesus life where he claims that his time has not come. It is important to understand these three so you can have a better understanding of why this time is so important

Wedding Feast

John 2:3–4 NASB95
When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.”
Mary, Jesus Mother, told Jesus to do something about the wine situation. She knew that people would know that Jesus was the Messiah if he would perform a miracle and solve this issue.
Jesus told her that this was not the place to reveal who he really was. It would have short-changed the appointed time for his purpose to be revealed. This is why Jesus did this miracle privately. The disciples and the servants are the only ones who knew.
Jesus knew that if people understood his power to do miracles that they would worship him for what he could do for them. They would not worship Him because He is the Son of God.
Tell story about Arvin and Jesus healing his brother but not his mom. Arvin was going to church for the healing of his mom and not to worship Jesus as the Messiah.
We must be careful not to worship Jesus for what He can do for us. Because there will come a day when Jesus will not do what you want and you will question His reality or claims. We must worship Jesus for his claims and what He has done in fulfilling his purpose .

Feast of Booths

John 7:3–8 NASB95
Therefore His brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing. “For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” For not even His brothers were believing in Him. So Jesus said to them, “My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune. “The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil. “Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.”
Jesus brothers were wanting Jesus to reveal himself at the feast in Judea. They wanted him to prove himself as the Messiah by showing what He could do. Jesus would not succumb to the pressures of His brothers.
Instead he revealed to them their need for a savior. He told them that their time is always opportune because they were of the world. They did not have to submit to the God’s plan. On the other hand Jesus said that the world hated him because he testifies against the world. Jesus knew that He must reveal Himself when His hour had come.
Explain how I wanted to become a minister at 21 but the Lord would not allow it. I had to go through 17 years of training in the corporate world in order to know how to minster adequately to people. I am thankful that I waited and God chose Prospect as the place for me to begin my journey.
Timing is important. We must not get ahead of God. He knows the times and the places where we are needed and will call us into action when He needs us. We must submit ourselves to His timing and plan.

Jesus in the temple

John 7:28–31 NASB95
Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know Me and know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. “I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.” So they were seeking to seize Him; and no man laid his hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come. But many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “When the Christ comes, He will not perform more signs than those which this man has, will He?”
Jesus claimed to be the Messiah in the temple and the people wanted to seize him. No one would touch him because his time had not yet come.
Jesus knew that he had the freedom to confess his Lordship without being harmed. He knew that God would protect him in order to fulfill His purpose.
We too can take confidence in knowing that God will protect us until we have fulfilled our purpose. We should not fear the actions of the world when it comes to doing God’s will. Matthew 10:28
Matthew 10:28 NASB95
“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
We should live in the purposes of God and not the expectations of man!

Glorify the Son On Earth

Jesus purpose on earth was to glorify the Father by reconciling the creation on earth to the Father. He recieved this glory by giving authority to all flesh, to all who had been given to him, and give eternal life.

Authority over all flesh

Jesus has authority over all flesh because he made salvation available to all people. Romans 5:12-19
Romans 5:12–19 NASB95
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned— for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification. For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
Jesus sacrificial death on the cross was enough to satisfy the wrath of God towards all sin of all people.
The sin of Adam brought separation from God and death to all people. Jesus death, burial, and resurrection brought life to many.
Jesus is the only one who could give His life for the atonement of the world. This correlates to John 17:4
John 17:4 NASB95
“I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do.

Authority over those He has given Him.

The Lord is sovereign and all knowing. Therefore he knows those who will come to faith in Jesus and those who will. Jesus is speaking of those who will come to faith in Jesus. John 6:44
John 6:44 NASB95
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
We must know that we cannot initiate salvation. God is always the initiator. He does this by calling us unto His Son. Those who are called and receive salvation are the ones that Jesus is referring to.

Give eternal life

Jesus has the authority to grant eternal life. So then who gets the blessing of eternal life form Jesus. John 3:16
John 3:16 NASB95
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
Those who believe in Jesus will receive eternal life. A person must repent of their sins, ask for forgiveness, receive salvation and submit their lives to Jesus. These are the people who receive eternal life!

Glory In Heaven

We know that Jesus left his glory in heaven to cloak himself in humanity. He limited himself by becoming like man. Before He did this He had all the attributes of God. Now he was returning to the Father to have His glory restored from that which He left to fulfill God’s purpose Hebrews 1:1-4
Hebrews 1:1–4 NASB95
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.
Jesus is the the radiance of God’s glory, exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. Jesus is God
Hebrews 2:14–18 NASB95
Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
Jesus was made like us to destroy death in us.
