BE STRONG IN THE LORD part 2
BE STRONG IN THE LORD part 2
SLIDE 1 “BE STRONG IN THE LORD SLIDE”
I have been praying to the Lord lately “Why are the ways of the world able to drag us down?” to temp us? , to distract us from God?, to cause us to sin and stumble, to turn our hearts away at times?
I found the Lord directing me into the topic and study of worship
Lets look into God’s word and I think He can help us sift through some of this
If anything after today’s message the Lord can help us recognize signs of our hearts getting turned away or distracted by the ways of the world.
Look what Jeremiah says what we struggle against
SLIDE 2
Jeremiah 16:19 (NLT)
19 Lord, you are my strength and fortress,
my refuge in the day of trouble!
Nations from around the world
will come to you and say,
“Our ancestors left us a foolish heritage,
for they worshiped worthless idols.
The first thing we want to look at is what is idolatry, would that be as in old testament times a molded or carved image of something to worship?
Here on the screen we see what idolatry is
SLIDE 3
IDOLATRY
trusting, serving or giving worship to something that is not God
We see in Exodus 20 what the first of the ten commandments the Lord gave to govern and protect us
SLIDE 4
Exodus 20:2–3 (NLT)
2 “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.
3 “You must not have any other god but me.
SLIDE 5
Exodus 20:4 (NLT)
4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.
SLIDE 6
Ex 20 :5 You must not worship (bow down) or serve them
SLIDE 7
Ephesians 6:11 (NLT)
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
Thats what we want to look at this morning are the devil’s strategies and schemes
Then next week how to be strong in the Lord and put on the full armor of God to stand against the devil’s strategies
Remember history tells us we can drawn away or pulled away from the Lord if we are not careful
SLIDE 8
STRATEGIES BY THE ENEMY
1) Impatience and pressure
When Moses went up the mountain to get the ten commandments
We see when we get impatient for things in our life
Pressures from others to join in what may be popular or to fit in
We see in the story in 1st Samuel with king Saul, God actually regretting making him king
SLIDE 9
1 Samuel 15:22 (NLT)
22 But Samuel replied,
“What is more pleasing to the Lord:
your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice?
Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
SLIDE 10
1 Samuel 15:23 (NLT)
23 Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft,
and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.
So because you have rejected the command of the Lord,
he has rejected you as king.”
SLIDE 11
STRATEGIES BY THE ENEMY
1) Impatience and pressure
2) Cravings / Greed / Lust
SLIDE 12
Colossians 3:5 (NASB95)
5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
SLIDE 13
IMMORALITY - adultery, fornication, lesbianism, homosexuality, sex with animals
IMPURITY - uncleaness, lustful luxurious living
PASSION - affliction of the mind, emotion, passionate deed (mishap or calamity)
EVIL DESIRE / GREED - desire what is forbidden, desire for more, take advantage, covet
SLIDE 14
STRATEGIES BY THE ENEMY
1) Impatience and pressure
2) Cravings / Greed / Lust
3) Spiritual influence
SLIDE 15
Exodus 23:33 (NASB95)
33 “They shall not live in your land, because they will make you sin against Me; for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
In studies it shows that things we allow to be idols actually becomes a source of whatever god of that idol or influence to manifest itself
No place in the bible is more powerful to see what happens when God is replaced with other influences than Romans 1
SLIDE 16
Romans 1:21 (NASB95)
21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
SLIDE 17
Romans 1:22–23 (NASB95)
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,
23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
SLIDE 18
Romans 1:28 (NASB95)
28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
