TITLE??
This morning we will not look at a particular parable of Jesus
I believe this is what God would have us do this morning is to sort of take a break from the parables
But still focus on the truth of Gods word
So I wanted to hit 4 different points this morning as more of a recharge and refresh as we head into some busy times ahead
Busy but good, great, awesome times ahead
The first point I want to focus on this morning is the piece of truth is that there is rest in Jesus
Matthew 11:28–30 NASB95
28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
This is just after Jesus had come down hard on some communities
Then I am not sure if they are in the same speech, but Jesus then says I have all the power
And then right at the end
Come to Me all who are tired
Ever been tired
Ever been exhausted
Ever been spiritually tired or exhausted
Ever had a big burden that you have tired to muscle around
And the issue here is that the world will tell you
Deal with it
Keep it to your self
Handle it yourself
Jesus is saying that if you are tired, ever been tired, exhausted or ever been exhausted
If you have a burden you are carrying around He is saying that you and I are to come to Him
FOr us to come to Jesus we must leave where we currently are
For you and I to come to Jesus and answer this amazing invitation we have to move from our current location
From our current location spiritually
From our current location emotionally
From our current location even physically
And we could probably spend the rest of the morning going over come to Me from Jesus Himself
Simply put Go towards Jesus
There seems to be a cause and effect in this verse
If we Come to Jesus then Jesus says He will give us rest
That when we come to Jesus we take upon us His burden which is lighter than what we are carrying
Because we went to Jesus
Maybe coming to Jesus Spiritually is to read more scripture
Maybe you are currently a separation reader, not every day but most days in the week
To go to Jesus Spiritually is to read it everyday
Maybe its every day before you do anything else
Maybe it is physically and going to Jesus you need to learn to say no to somethings
Not no to Jesus but no to things God is telling you to say no to
I know I will hear this later on but you need physical rest and that doesn't always mean you stop everything
But you take advantage of those times God has given you to rest
Church the principal from Scripture here is there is rest in Jesus
Amen to that
The second point I wanted to share with you this morning is
There is grace at the Cross for the sinner
Anyone ever needed grace
I know I need grace everyday multiple times a day
You know why
Because I am far from perfect
News flash you and I are sinners
This is a good piece of truth
That you and I understand there is grace at the cross for you and I
Ephesians 2:8–9 NASB95
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
That should take some of if not the entire burden off our shoulders
It is a gift from God
Understand though that you and I as receivers of this gift that we don’t deserve the gift
That should show us how much love God has for us
Giving us something that we can never earn or will never deserve
Understand though it is not cheap grace
Cheap grace is grace that does not require repentance or change
This is true grace that requires repentance
Because the grace paid by God was oh so expensive
Just because you are given grace and just because you know at the end of the day there is grace and more grace for you and I
That does not give us the freedom to live flippantly knowing there is grace
Romans 6:1–5 NASB95
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
Just because God is a gracious God giving you and I something we don’t deserve
We don’t get to live however we want just to get more and more grace
Because of what Jesus did on the cross we who have a personal relationship with Him are dead in our sins
And because we have been crucified with Christ we are also resurrected with Christ
And we should walk as Christ walked and live as Christ lived
All because we have grace from a loving and gracious God
Church the second principal or truth is there is grace at the cross for the sinner
True grace not cheap grace
The third thing I wanted to share with you is there is strength in Jesus
A lot of the time we find our selves trying to do thing s out of our own strength and to do eternal heavenly things out of our own strength gets us tired, and when we get tired we get upset and bitter
I know how things work, I have been around a while
Which is why it is so important for us to know that there is strength in Jesus
Isaiah 41:10 NASB95
10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
That God is our strength
Not our own strength but God who gives us strength to go about and carry out what He has called us to do
And He has called us to Go and Make disciples
But for us to do that we need His strength
Isaiah 40:29–31 NASB95
29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
Our strength comes only from the Lord
Church lets make this real personal this morning
The only way we will be able to do 5 weeks of prayer walking, a week of Super Summer, a Block Party and then a week of VBS is not because we are really well organized
Is not because we have panned it out so well, something is bound to be a hiccup
The only way you will make it through it is when your strength comes from Jesus
The only way we will as a church will make it through it is when our strength comes from Jesus
Which is why we have covered this so much in prayer
Psalm 9:9–10 NASB95
9 The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; 10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Church our strength comes only from Jesus and when we set out to find Him, scripture says we will find Him
In case you have missed it
The principal from Scripture is our strength comes from the Lord
The final point I wanted to share with you this morning to encourage you
Is that our Hope is in Jesus and there is hope for the lost
We can have hope because Scripture says that if we run after and look for God we will find Him
God has not turned His back on those who seek Him
We just read that in the Psalms
But if we look around this world it is tough and can be very discouraging
It is discouraging to know that the world is backwards now
That what is right and true is looked down upon and is preached that right is wrong and wrong is right
And after so long it starts to get discouraging
But
That should change everything right
When things are discouraging and when it seems that life is closing in on your
BUT
Psalm 46:1–3 NASB95
1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.
This is our hope
God is our hope and a safe place during times of trouble and tribulation
I know that currently we are in times of trouble
That people are upset that about the overturning of roe v. wade
That our country has a whole month set aside to celebrate sin
So yes I would say we are in times of trouble and for the believer
Now more than ever we are looking for hope
Those who are believers in Jesus Christ know that hope
That hope is Jesus
God is our refuge where we run during trouble times
Church do you hear me this morning
Your hope as a believer in Jesus Christ is God Himself
So when things start grow dime and life feels like it is beating you down remember that God is your refuge and your hope
Billy Graham had this to say, “For the believer there is hope beyond the grave, because Jesus Christ has opened the door to heaven for us by His death and resurrection.”
God is also hope for the lost
1 Peter 1:3–4 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
The hope lost people have is Jesus
And that Jesus came and died in our place on the cross
And then 3 days later Jesus rose from the grave
Our hope is Jesus and through Jesus we can have salvation which is a personal relationship with Jesus
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
That through Jesus we can actually be free from sin and death becasue of Jesus
If we repent which is to turn from our sin and turn to Jesus and believe He is who He says He is then we will be saved
That is our only hope for the salvation problem
And the good news is is that Jesus is still in the saving business
That Jesus still desires all to come to know Him through faith
That is our hope that Jesus still saves people
So as we come to a close we will call the band up
And as they are coming up
