Let The Redeemed Say So (1)

Text: Text: Psalm 107:1-3
I. Introduction
A. We who have experienced the goodness of the living God need to say so.
B. We need to tell all that we come in contact with: “I’ve been redeemed!”
II. The Redeemed Are Compared to:
A. Hungry and thirsty travelers wandering and lost in a wilderness.
1. Vs. 4-9
B. Prisoners in iron bondage falling down with none to help them
1. Vs. 10-16
C. Those who are ill with a terrible disease drawing near the gates of death
1. Vs. 17-22
D. Sailors in a dreadful storm that makes them reel to and fro like drunks
1. Vs. 23-32

III. We Need To Give Thanks
A. The Psalmist begins with an exhortation to give thanks to the Lord.
1. Vs. 1a
2. It is intensified by the use of “O.”
3. The psalmist encourages a holy fervor, a holy excitement that cannot but be expressed.
4. Let thanksgiving and thanks-living burst forth from us in praise to the unspeakable tetragramatron.
5. The tetragramatron is YHWH.
6. The Jews were so afraid of breaking the Third Commandment which says:
a) (Exodus 20:7 NKJV) "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
7. It is assumed that the name was something on the order of “Yahweh.”
8. Jehovah and Yahweh both come from YHWH.
a) It is the covenant Name of God.
b) It is rendered in small caps in your Bible as opposed to “Lord” in Psalm 109:21
B. He gives 2 reasons we should give thanks:
1. For He is good.
2. For His mercy endures forever.
C. God is good.
1. (Romans 5:8 NKJV) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
a) Oh, how I love Jesus ... because He first loved me.
2. We serve a good God who loves us so much that He sent His Son to live among us and to experience the human condition.
a) (Hebrews 4:15 KJV) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
3. He asked that same Son to take our sins upon His sinless self and die in our place.
4. Jesus willingly did so — because of His goodness towards us.
D. That goodness is expressed in the only way that we can receive it as sinners separated from God — as mercy.
E. As sinners separated from God we needed mercy — not justice.
F. And not just a touch of mercy, but mercy that endures forever.
G. Mercy that extends grace — even when I stumble — even when I fall — even when I fail.
IV. Let The Redeemed Say So
A. Who else can give informed and passionate praise to God — only those who have experienced His redemption.
B. Let them say so.
1. Whereas redemption is an inward thing of the heart.
2. And our hearts should rejoice
3. Let’s not let it be just an inward thing of the heart.
4. Let’s declare it too others.
5. “I’ve been redeemed!”
C. Who else is going to tell of the goodness of God?
1. Those who are in rebellion against Him?
2. Those who don’t know Him?
3. NO!
4. We are the ones!
V. Redeemed From The Enemy
A. And then, let’s declare from whom we have been redeemed.
B. The enemy that wants to according to Jesus in (John 10:10 NKJV) "... steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”
C. Jesus has redeemed us from the hand of that enemy.
D. Snatched by superior power away from fierce oppressors.
E. A divine redemption — no one else could do it.
VI. Redeemed from Every Place
A. Blairsville is not the only place where people have been redeemed.
B. There isn’t a continent on the face of the earth that has not been touched with the gospel of Jesus.
C. Not only has He sent the gospel to every land, but the day is coming when He will gatherHis redeemed from every land.
1. Heaven’s going to be an exciting place.
2. People from every nation and race and culture will be there.
3. I don’t think it will be cordoned off into “the white area,” “the black area,” “the Latino and Latina area,” “the Asian area,” etc.
D. He is going to gather us all together into one.
VII. Conclusion
A. So, have you experienced God’s goodness and mercy?
1. If not accept Him as Lord and Savior today.
B. If you have experienced God’s love and mercy, then rise up right now where you are and say so.
1. “I have been redeemed by the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ!
