John 3:16-17; 1 John 4:7-8

1) What are all of the main ideas/concepts/points in each of these passages?
Starts with God, with God’s love, out of his love he gave - his one and only Son
So - this is how God loved, the manner in which he loved
his love is sacrificial and unconditional
only when we are renewed by God’s love can we love others
clarify John’s use of world, place vs people
no one is outside of God’s love, it is for everyone
perish - eternal separation from God
love is a verb - not a feeling, emotion, an action
love is a movement (switchfoot song) love is our native tounge, we were created to love
God’s love saves us,
tie in God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, with God’s love
everything that happened on the cross, Jesus gave his life so that we can be forgiven
talk about 1 John verse up to verse 12, maybe set up tension with John 3:16, and than talk about 1 John,
how is renewed mind related to God’s love
God’s love is not just cerebral, or emotional, but it is an action
2) How do the passages contribute to an overall treatment of the main topic of this particular message?
3) Are there important points that need to be made that can NOT be anchored in one of these primary texts? Will addition references be needed?
4) What background will be needed to make sense of these passages (historical or textual)
5) What are questions or issues that we face today that this message (these passages) are addressing? (Uncovered Tension)
6) What is the ONE main point we should be highlighting and applying?
a) What do we want them to know, and why do we want them to know it?
b) What do we want them to do, and why do we want them to do it?
