Sermon Title: Guard Your Heart

Opening Scriptures:

Jude 20–21 NKJV
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Opening Scriptures:

Proverbs 4:23 (CSB)
23 Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
Jude 20–21 (NKJV)
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Introduction:

Jude starts his letter writing to those he says are the...
Called
Sanctified
Preserved
Can I tell someone here this morning… He is STILL CALLING. He is STILL SANCTIFYING.
He is STILL PRESERVING.
He continues in verse 24 by telling the reader that God is ABLE to...
Keep you from stumbling
Present you faultless
Give you exceeding Joy
Can I tell someone here this morning.... He is still able to KEEP you from Stumbling.
He is still able to PRESENT you Faultless. He is still able to GIVE you EXCEEDING Joy.

Point #1 - He is a Preserving God

Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Can I encourage someone here this morning? He didn’t start NOT to finish!

Point #2 Building Ourselves up in our Holy Faith

Romans 8:28–31 & 35-39 (NKJV)
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
If God is for you who can ever be against you? No matter what tries to come against us… OVERWHELMING VICTORY IS OURS!

Point #3 Keeping Ourselves In His Love

Jude 20–21 (NKJV)
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
John 15:9–10 (NKJV)
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Abide in HIS LOVE. The word abide is meno meaning to dwell, remain, stand.
We are safe when we remain & dwell IN HIM!

Point #4 Praying In the Holy Spirit

Romans 8:26–27 (NKJV)
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Ephesians 6:18 (NKJV)
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

Point #5 Look for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

2 Peter 3:11–14 (NKJV)
11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;

Closing:

1 Thessalonians 5:23–24 (NKJV)
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
1 Peter 1:3–5 (NKJV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
