Introduction
author: Hosea - "Salvation" -
Hosea was called not to proclaim God’s Word, but to marry a woman of adultery and produce children of adultery.
He married Gomer, who bore three children.
His personal family struggles provided the images Hosea used to describe Israel and God.
The struggles also taught him to share the divine emotions of deep, self-giving love and a powerful desire for justice and retribution.
Date: 755-710 B. C.
Place: The Northern Kingdom of Israel
Purpose: Hosea seeks to demonstrate the balance between God's "justice" & "Love"
Theme: God's redeeming love being illustrated.
- returning to Yahweh -
that repentance necessarily precedes reception of divine favor.
The message in Hosea is centered on:
• Israel’s historical relationship with God;
• Israel’s love affair with the fertility rituals of Baal worship;
• Israel’s economic, military, and political practices and conditions;
• God’s expectations of Israel; and
• God’s ultimate love for His people.
Background: The prophet Hosea began his prophetic ministry near the end of Jeroboam's reign The Northern Kingdom.
the people of God had encountered an apostasy, falling away.
Hosea pleaded with his people to turn to God and be saved.
Hosea heeded an unusual instruction from God. Hosea marries a prostitute by the name of Gomer.
Gomer was unfaithful.
by virtue of his infidelity and lessons learned from his own marriage, Hosea was able to minister to the people of God because of their unfaithfulness.
The major themes of Hosea’s message can be summarized in three words: sin, judgment, and salvation
Let us return
its been said as a preacher you know you cant get common with the people.
I think we been focusing on the wrong thing cause some of us have become common with God and taking God for Granted.
what you mean preacher?
the people of Israel in the text have become common with God and was refusing to repent as if they didn't fear God or didn't need Him at all.
which is why there's been a call to return to God.
see you never want to get to a place where you think you don't need God cause He’ll take His hands off you with a quickness and when God takes His hands off you everything is bound to crumble .... sounds familiar?
Hosea 5:15 “I will go and return to my place, Till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: In their affliction they will seek me early.”
So this just told us that not only did the people not want to repent or have fear of God, but that this was a time where God is attempting to get back in his place and return to us, but we the people of God are out of place.
so now everybody is not in their perspective places.
so that means nobody is lined up with the word of God, and nobody is lined up with the order that God has established for His people.
Its a dangerous place to be outside the will out of God.
never think you don't ever need God.
you think cause you got a nice car, nice house, beautiful family , and you got everything taken care of that you got it together, don't ever think you can get so high to where God cant pull you down.
cause he’ll teach you how to be humble and will remind you whose the real reason you are where you at and why you have what you have and who made the way when you working 3-4 jobs trying to make ends meet and living from pay check to paycheck and bumming rides just to get to where you had to go … Know your place, your place is not Gods place
you are not God and you far from God Jr. ... for He is God all by himself and he don't need your help.
Returning to God
People who have walked away from God because of church folk
church-folk who don't know how to be Christians which means Christ Like
Church-folk the ones that judge people all the time and act like they done forgot where they come from
what they did
who they did
where they used to go
what they used to drink
what they used to smoke
don't act like that !
what kills me with church folk is they always want God to cover they mess and nobody else
they don't have no repentance and no forgiveness in they heart But I’m so glad God aint like some of yall church folk
If the people of God would become more Kingdom like and develop a Kingdom mindest.
They’ll have a better understanding of What that Means… Kingdoms mindset means It Aint About Me its about the Kingdom.
Kingdom folk know that I gotta share the good news of Jesus Christ and win souls for the Kingdom while doing it with the Love of Christ
Kingdom folk don't operate out of ignorance like some of us do.
we wonder why God is allowing certain things to happen in the world today and the nerve of us to get mad cause covid is coming back to a rise, and new diseases are showing up.
Then the officials in the united states government … that's the people in the white house..... are acting a fool.
you know why cause they don't have enough kingdom folk doing their jobs and they not in the right positions and they not living clean lives.
That doesn't mean he wont welcome you back home
one thing i love about God He aint gone treat you as your sins deserve its our job to persuade the world of this very God.
And if you go back in Chapter 5 you’ll see that's why God released his judgement on the people of Israel.
not just because they wouldn't repent but they refuse to get it right and get in position.
Ho 5:13 “When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, And sent to king Jareb: Yet could he not heal you, Nor cure you of your wound.”
We seen in the text where God had to remind them that Assyrian cant do what He Do ! and he had to remind them who they had put their trust in
you put your trust in yourself
your employer
your government
your pastor
let them Heal you
let them fix your problems
But we know who can fix it
psalms 20:7 “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”
i gotta move here
Importance of repentance
its the only way to escape God’s judgement
repentance involves turning from sin and turning to God
it prepares the way for God’s Kingdom
it brings forgiveness & restoration
repentance is a requirement for fellowship with God
repentance opens the way for blessings
moving down the verse
torn, and … heal.
They ascribe their punishment not to fortune, or man, but to God, and acknowledge that none but God can heal their wound.(not
the Assyrian, as they once vainly thought, Ho 5:13) They are at the same time persuaded of the mercy of God, which persuasion is the starting-point of true repentance, and without which men would not seek, but hate and flee from God.
Though our wound be severe, it is not past hope of recovery; there is room for grace, and a hope of pardon.
He hath smitten us, but not so badly that He cannot heal us.
so the big play here is given to returning to God and Knowing God .
I know who God is!
He will heal … he never said he wasn't !
only after we confess it to God and ask for forgiveness, and get in position so things can line up accordingly
beginning the healing process there are necessary steps
Letting Go - how can you heal if you still holding onto stuff that God doesn't want you with, you holding up your own progress .. you done heard the song with leandria Johnson lord deliver me cause i seem to do is hurt me, you aint doing nothing hurting yourself… lord get me out my own way
i cant keep holding on to past hurt and pain and situations and traumas over the past years of my life and some point you gotta come to a point where you gotta let it go if not you will never get to where God wants you to go.
and whats bad some of us get content with that stuff and get content with where you are in life .. so now you walking around with a mask on being fake and lien to yourself and everybody
then you got some people who walking around and aint hiding the fact they mad at the world i mean you cant even say Good Morning to them and they turn into a Karen i don't want to have a good morning
self-evaluation - you gotta check yourself sometimes you might have to be like michael Jackson im talking about the man in the mirror im asking him to change his ways 1 Corinthians 11:28 “But let a man examine himself,
you ever thought about why you cant go higher in God
why haven't you reached your destiny or even your full potential
