Purpose: This text addresses the issue of disciples losing focus while serving Jesus. This text offers the solution of being in continual devotion to Jesus' teaching/word- Matthew 11:28-29.

Introduction

Too Good by Drake
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah
Look... I don't know how to talk to you
I don't know how to ask you if you're okay
My friends always feel the need to tell me things
Seems like they're just happier than us these days
Yeah, these days I don't know how to talk to you
I don't know how to be there when you need me
It feels like the only time you see me
Is when you turn your head to the side and look at me differently
Yeah, and last night I think I lost my patience
Last night I got high as your expectations
Last night, I came to a realization
And I hope you can take it
I hope you can take it
I'm too good to you
I'm way too good to you
You take my love for granted
I just don't understand it
No, I'm too good to you
I'm way too good to you
You take my love for granted
I just don't understand it
I don't know how to talk to you
I just know I found myself getting lost with you
Lately you just make me work too hard for you
Got me on flights overseas, and I still can't get across to you
And last night I think I lost my patience
Last night I got high as your expectations
Last night, I came to a realization
And I hope you can take it
I hope you can take it
I'm too good to you
I'm way too good to you
You take my love for granted
I just don't understand it
No, I'm too good to you
I'm way too good to you
You take my love for granted
I just don't understand it
Years go by too fast
I can't keep track
How long did we last?
I feel bad for asking
It can't end like this
We gotta take time with this
Cock up yuh bumper, sit down pon it
Let me see if this is something I can fix
You got somebody other than me
Don't play the victim when you're with me
Free time is costing me more than it seems
Sacrificing things
And I wanna tell you my intentions
I wanna do the things that I mention
I wanna benefit from the friendship
I wanna get the late night message from you, from you
I put my hands around you
Gotta get a handle on you
Gotta get a handle on the fact that...
I'm too good to you
I'm way too good to you
You take my love for granted
I just don't understand it
No, I'm too good to you
I'm way too good to you
You take my love for granted
I just don't understand it

Transition To Body- Graciously Welcoming Jesus into Your Home As a Follower of Jesus

Hostess’ Home Hospitality

Luke 10:38 ESV
38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.
Luke wrote this page. The original audience was Theophilus (God's friend or friend of God). The Gospel of Luke was probably written in the early 60s A.D. The purpose of Luke was to provide an orderly account that Theophilus may have certainty concerning the things he/she has been taught. Luke shows the compassion of Jesus for those who are marginalized within the society (poor & outcast)
I will need to illustration "the good portion"

Body

Lowly Listeners Learning (Humility Of Learned Disciples)

Luke 10:39 NIV
39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
Illustrate: continually sitting at Jesus feet
John 15:5 ESV
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Listening to Jesus' word as teacher is a by-product of loving the LORD God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our strength, and all our mind.

Working Without Worshiping (Dangerously Distracted Deaconing)

Luke 10:40 NIV
40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

Cherishing Christ Continually (Peace Of Cherishing Jesus)

Luke 10:41–42 NIV
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Illustrate: psychology today article of causes and impact of anxiousness and being trouble
cherish- protect and care for (someone) lovingly.
We ought never deprive ourselves of this opportunity. It is more important to listen to Jesus than honour him with an elaborate meal (and therefore to be content with giving him a simpler meal).

Transition To Close

While this account of Jesus' visit to Mary & Martha's house is exclusive to the Gospel of Luke- In the gospel of John 12:1-8, Jesus appears to visit Martha's house on a different occasion. They gave Jesus dinner. Martha served and Lazarus reclined at the table with Jesus. Mary took expensive ointment and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. On this occasion Judas raised an issue with Mary's service to Jesus.
John 12:1–8 ESV
1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table. 3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. 8 For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”
One thing have I asked of the LORD
Psalm 27:4 ESV
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
Matthew 11:28–29 ESV
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 6:25 ESV
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:33 ESV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
