We are called to walk in the light
1 John 1:5 “5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.”
Light vs. darkness
Anger vs. joy
Wrath vs. mercy
Why do we so often continue to walk in darkness?
Dark = Death; Light = Life
If you’re walking in the light of Christ, you are alive!
If you’re walking in darkness, you are walking in death.
The Bible calls us the Bride of Christ
Applies to the church at large, regardless of gender.
Picture of the Bride
Eph 5:25-27 “25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault.”
When you are walking in the light of the Lord you are walking as his Bride.
When you are walking in darkness you are nothing more than a corpse.
The wages of sin are death. A dead body is called a corpse
The bridegroom message is a call to active intimacy with God.
God’s invitation for us to experience the deep things of his heart.
Emotions
Affections
1 Cor 2:10-12 “10 But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. 11 No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.”
As sons we experience God’s throne as heirs of his power and authority.
As the bride we experience his heart. His emotions, affection, and desires for us.
Jesus the bridegroom has fiery affection
He has a burning desire and longing for his people
John 15:9 “9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.”
