Intro: As we move into this final campaign of war, we see the battle plan that is drawn up by God to accomplish victory for the Israelites.
He has weakened Pharaoh’s army through 9 plagues, now God will break the back of His enemies in this last plague.
It is the plague of death!
Text; Exodus 11:1-10
I want to share three things that stood out to me as I was studying this passage and then I will give you some interesting facts about it as well.
1. Moses is Great in the land; 3b
It is amazing what God can do with one who was reluctant at first to do God’s will.
In chapter 3-4, Moses made 5 excuses of why God shouldn’t use him to go back to Egypt and deliver Israel.
Now Moses is “great in the land of Egypt”.
Not only is he great in the eyes of Israel but also in the eyes of the servants of Pharaoh!
What happened?
God happened!
God had a purpose for Moses and Israel and nothing could change that.
Remember when Moses first stood before Pharaoh and his heart was hard, look what God said to Moses in this trial;
God told Moses, “You are Me”, before Pharaoh!
God began to bring plagues upon Egypt by the hand of Moses.
Each plague that came upon Egypt, Moses became more confident in God and His word and it strengthened Moses faith.
Now the faith of Moses in God not only changed him but everyone who knew him as well.
Friends and enemies!
God is always faithful to His nature/word, never doubt that!
ORACLE - A divine message communicated through a human mediator to one or more human recipients.
If we want to become great before men we must be humble before God!
2. The Lord Makes the Difference; 7
In this plague of death, God makes a distinction between those that belong to Him [Israel], and those that do not [Egypt].
There is a difference between believers and unbelievers.
Unbelievers do not follow God.
They turn away from God, reject, deny, and even curse Him.
Therefore, God cannot take care of them, neither upon this earth nor in the day of judgment.
They have to stand alone and face the judgment of God alone.
Believers follow God and cast themselves upon the mercy of God, trusting Him to take care of them.
And because they cast themselves upon Him, He is able to take care of them now and in the day of judgment.
Turn and read [Mt.
25:31-46] [You can put this scripture on the screen if you want]
3. Moses was Angry; 10
As Moses explains to Pharaoh what is going to take place in this last plague [the firstborn of all Egypt will perish], and how the servants of Pharaoh will bow down before Moses and urge them to leave because of God’s great power over the gods of Egypt, Moses leaves in anger.
Why was Moses angry?
He was angry because a stupid leader would waste the life of so many.
God’s mercy through the plagues should have brought Pharaoh to his knees, instead he continually hardened his heart.
If we want America to turn back to God, we should have righteous anger in our heart and then do something about it by being vocal in what we believe!
4. Interesting Facts;
[2] God is allowing Israel to collect unpaid wages for the last 400 years.
[5] In most cultures, firstborn sons are considered special, and in Egypt, they were considered sacred.
Moses warned Pharaoh that the way he treated God’s firstborn would determine how God treated Egypt’s firstborn
[7a] In this plague and judgment against Egypt, God would not even let an Egyptian dog growl at an Israelite or their animals during this time.
God’s people would experience peace in a time of great turmoil.
