One Mightier

Jesus Christ, the Son of God

This is the beginning of the gospel

This has been God’s plan from the beginning

1 Peter 1:20, Ephesians 1:4 Before the foundation of the world

Jesus was chosen as the Son of God

This was told by the prophets

God planned it and fulfilled all that he planned

All the Old Testament prophets were preparing the way for Christ

Malachi 3:1 the close of OT

Isaiah 40:3 prepare the way

John, the Baptizer

John’s message prepared the way

Repentance for the remission of sins

This was the message of Christ

John’s baptism prepared the way

Baptised as a symbol of washing and newness

This was a new form of baptism

done by another not self-administered

available to all that come in faith

John’s behavior prepared the way

In the wilderness- a place of separation and testing of faith

He was not clothed like the religious leaders of Jerusalem- a new kind of righteousness and piety

Followers, the confessing ones

Those that came after him were those who were willing to humble themselves and confess there sin

These were the people who would follow Christ

They received baptism by water but their salvation was not complete yet for they needed the mightier one

They needed the baptism of the Holy Ghost

This would be done upon the completion of Christ’s work on the cross

His work is greater than John’s work
