I. A New Race vs. 9a

A. We are a chosen race. This means that our ethnicity comes second to our identity in Christ. Gal. 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

B. What this means for us, is that these “differences” takes a back seat, yet they glorify God. People today talk about being color blind as a good thing, and it is to a certain extent. We don’t need to do away with everything, there are good distinctions, that we can learn from. (FBC JAX ex)

II. A New Priesthood vs. 9b

A. We are priest, because we can go directly to the Father, because of Jesus. This was what Israel should have been. Exodus 19:6

and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

B. Due to our relationship with Jesus, we can go directly to the Father. Heb. 4:16

Hebrews 4:16 NASB95

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Matthew 27:51 NASB95

And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.

C. A priest is also suppose to bring God to those who didn’t know Him. So are we!

III. A New Nation vs. 9c-10

A. We are to be holy because Yahweh is holy. It means that our value system is different then the world.

B. We’re suppose to be a new creation in Christ, becoming more godly as time goes by. II Cor. 5:17

2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB95

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

C. Jesus bought us with His blood. We are slaves, who have been made free, and adopted into the family of God. “If God has adopted you into His family, if you are a child of God, your destiny is secure, it is certain....It is a guarantee. If God has taken me into the family I am not only a child, I am an heir, and nothing, and no one can ever rob me of the inheritance”- D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

D. We are to proclaim this glorious gospel.

E. We once belonged to the damned, but now we have a new family, and new purpose in life. Heb. 2:3
